  • Searching for a Chocolate Fudge Icing recipe?

    I'm looking for a fudge icing recipe that someone has tried that doesn't come out as a glaze. I have one that comes out as a glaze and while it tastes good, I'm looking to make cupcakes with both vanilla and chocolate fudge frosting. Because of this, I'd like the chocolate fudge icing to be able to be piled high, like the vanilla. I've searched the web but none tell me exactly how the recipe will turn out and that's what I'm looking for.

  • What should I serve for dessert at a Burger party?

    We are having a party (Burgers & Board Games) this coming weekend. We're inviting all of our friends over to enjoy some good gourmet burgers and play some good old fashioned board games. We've asked everyone to bring a side dish to share, but we're figuring that we should have some kind of dessert for everyone. It was suggested that we do an ice cream sundae bar, but if we're playing board games, ice cream kind of needs to be babysat because it can easily melt in the heat. So I guess my question is, what kind of desserts would you like if we were serving you burgers and you were playing board games? Would you like cupcakes or cookies or a cheesecake or something else?

  • Can you roast radishes?

    We got radishes at the farmers market and forgot to put them in the salad for dinner. I'm doing roasted asparagus this weekend....is it OK to roast the radishes with asparagus? I've never done this before, so I just want to make sure that roasted radishes will taste OK.

  • My automatic door locks don't always unlock or lock?

    OK, so this may be a complicated explanation, but I'm confused and don't know exactly what to do. I have a 1999 Honda Civic that I love. Now that it's winter, the automatic door locks don't always unlock or lock when I press the appropriate buttons from my remote. Sometimes it's only the passengers side door, sometimes it's all but the drivers side door. The only thing that seems to effect it is when the car is cold. If the car is warm, it seems to work just fine. Is it just my car showing its age or is it something that perhaps the dealer can fix? The batteries are fine in my remote opener, so I know it's not that. Additionally, when I hit the unlock button on the inside to try to encourage opening the passenger side door, it often times takes me hitting it about 4 times before the door is fully unlocked. • I'm going skiing for the first time and don't know what to bring vs. what to rent!?

    Help! I'm going skiing for the first time on January 8, 2010 and have no clue what I should buy vs. what I should borrow from friends vs. what I should rent. We are going to Park City, UT and we're from the east coast. I'm not a huge fan of snow, so I don't know how much to invest in this sport since it's the first time I'm going and I may hate it. Everyone says I need ski pants/bib, but is that something I can generally rent at the resort or is it better to buy my own? Also, what do you wear under your coat and ski pants when you're on the mountain? Jeans? Thermal underwear? Pajamas? I just have no clue because I've never gone. I have a jacket that I got from Lands End, so that will work (it's good for up to -10 degrees, so I'm set there). What else should I know about skiing in general in addition to specific things I need.

    Thanks in advance!

  • Defroster in my car not working?

    When I go out to my car in the morning and there is frost on the window, I always turn on my car to warm it up while I scrape it. While the defroster helps to melt some of the ice, on the inside, it fogs up the window and it seems to take a REALLY long time to go away. It didn't used to do this. Is there something wrong with my car? I have a 1999 Honda Civic, so it's not a new car, but it still runs REALLY well, despite this minor blip. Is this something I need to have a mechanic look at ASAP or is it the cars age or what?

    Thanks in advance for your help!

  • Nut substitute in cookie recipe that's not Chocolate Chips?

    Hey all, I am going to make the Craisins recipe for Black Forest Cookies (http://www.oceanspray.com/recipes/Black_Forest_Coo... and it calls for a cup of pecans. If it didn't already have a cup of chocolate chips in it, I'd substitute chocolate chips for the nuts, but that seems like a LOT of chocolate chips and it may overpower the cookies. Any thoughts on another substitution?

  • What's the best way to travel with jewelry?

    We are going on a cruise on Thursday and I have no clue how to pack my jewelry. While I don't want to take a ton of it, I do want to have a few options for my dinner dresses. I have earrings and necklaces. I don't want them to get tangled, but I want to take them efficiently.

  • Information on how to "can" jam?

    We found a GREAT recipe this weekend in Cooking Light. We are thinking about canning it and giving it as gifts later in the year. Since it uses strawberries, we can't hold off on making it since they're currently in season. Anyway, were would I find information on how to can jam and preserves? Have you done it before? Is it easy?

    Oh, and the recipe is http://find.myrecipes.com/recipes/recipefinder.dyn... if you're interested.

    Thanks!

  • Who to use when ordering flowers online?

    I am trying to order flowers online for my mother and mother-in-law for Mother's Day. Who do you think is the best? I have used 1-800 Flowers in the past, but is there someone better? If you have ordered and had a good or bad experience, can you let me know? I'm just trying to get the most bang for my buck AND get good service & delivery.

  • What to do with Bay Scallops tonight for dinner?

    I have a package of Bay Scallops at home thawing for dinner. I was just going to saute them in butter, but I feel like I should be more creative then just sauteing them. Does anyone have any suggestions? I want it to be quick, easy and healthy.

  • I have left over egg yolks, can I use them in a cake?

    I have made a fritatta that used more egg whites than yolks, leaving me with 4 left over yolks. I'm not a huge fan of the yolks but I also don't want to waste them. Can I use them instead of eggs in a box cake mix or cookies or something? I don't really want to make mayonnaise or a hollandaise sauce, which seem to be popular answers. Help!

  • New York Hotels nearby that include the gym facility in reservation fee?

    I will be attending a conference at the Hilton New York, 1335 Avenue of the Americas later this year. I have called the facility and while they do have a work out facility, it's $15/day to use the facility. I think that's a little insane considering how much you pay to stay in the hotel to begin with. Does anyone know of any hotels that are nearby this address that don't charge an exorbitant amount to stay AND who do not charge for using the workout facilities?

  • What can I use besides nuts in this dessert?

    I am interested in making this Upside-Down Chocolate Cream Cheese Cake, but I don't like nuts. Any thoughts as to what I could put into the cake instead of the nuts? The ingredients are below.

    Thanks in advance!

    Ingredients:

    * 2 cups (12-oz. pkg.) NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Semi-Sweet Chocolate Morsels

    * 1 cup chopped pecans

    * 1 cup flaked sweetened coconut

    * 1 pkg. (18.25 oz.) chocolate cake mix

    * * Eggs, oil and water as called for in cake mix directions

    * 1 pkg. (8 oz.) cream cheese

    * 1/3 cup butter

    * 2 cups sifted powdered sugar

    Directions:

    PREHEAT oven to 350° F. Line bottom of 13 x 9-inch baking pan with wax paper or parchment paper. Grease paper and sides of pan. Sprinkle morsels, nuts and coconut evenly on bottom of pan.

    PREPARE cake mix according to package directions. Carefully spoon batter over ingredients in prepared pan.

    HEAT cream cheese and butter in medium saucepan over medium-low heat until melted (mixture may not appear smooth). Stir in powdered sugar until smooth. Drizzle mixture over cake batter.

    BAKE for 45 to 55 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center of chocolate portion comes out clean. Cool in pan on wire rack for 15 minutes. Invert onto wire rack. Carefully remove paper. Cool completely. Carefully transfer to serving platter.

    * Nutritional analysis based on ingredients for standard chocolate cake mix: 3 eggs, 1/2 cup vegetable oil and 1 1/3 cups water. If different, make recipe according to ingredients stated on cake mix box.

  • Unfamiliar with PriceGrabber.com - help!?

    I am looking to purchase a new digital camera. My father sent me information for PriceGrabber.com. I've never used them before and this is the first time I've heard of them. Has anyone used them and good or bad results? Is it similar to Ebay or Amazon?

  • Photo sharing without needing friends to login?

    We are on vacation and trying to upload our photos daily. We have Kodak Gallery accounts, but they're now only allowing us to upload one photo at a time, which is REALLY frustrating. We have been happy with the Kodak Gallery until it started only allowing one photo to upload at a time. We are looking for something that is free to join, will allow us to upload unlimited photos, and doesn't make our friends create accounts to view our photos. Snapfish is out because of this. I looked at PhotoBucket, but that looked like it was more similar to My Space or Facebook, neither of which we are interested in. We also have to be able to access the site in English from Sweden. Help!

    Much appreciated,

    Two diligent European tourists

  • Christmas List Help!?

    My parents are going shopping next Monday for my Christmas gifts. The only things I could come up with are new cutting boards, a memory card for my new camera and a new photo printer. They really like buying me gifts. I've asked for cash before, but they really like the look of surprise on my face when I open the gifts. I'm 29 years old and buy most of the stuff on my own. Any help you can give me on ideas would be great!

  • Baby Shower Gift for someone you don't like?

    My brother and his wife are having their first kid and I've been invited to the baby shower. I will be unable to attend (I've had an international vacation planned for 8 months and will be out of the country on that day), however, I know I have to send a gift, etiquette says so. My question is, what is the best gift to give for a first baby? I usually get clothes, but I know they don't need that stuff. What about a lamp with a cow on it (cows are my signature thing)? Would that be appropriate? Or should I get onesies and other outfits? The baby is supposed to be born sometime in the winter (though I don't know the date, because I don't care that much).

    Thanks in advance for your help!

  • New to Lentils?

    I have never cooked (or eaten) lentils before. I am looking for an easy recipe that doesn't use an entire bag of lentils. I'd like something that's easy (though I can try something more difficult), but most importantly, it needs to be delicious. Any recipes would be helpful. I would like to try something that you have eaten. I am familiar with AllRecipes.com and FoodNetwork.com, but I'd like to try something some recommends as a good recipe.

    I am not a vegetarian, so lentils including meat is definitely in!

  • Weight Watchers Core Plan questions?

    I have been using Weight Watchers for the past 3 years and have decided to try the Core plan out this week. One of the things I love the most is corn. I've been eating a lot of it. Can I really eat as much as I want (until my body feels full) and not gain weight? I feel like I'm eating a LOT and I'm REALLY satisfied and I'm not over eating. It's a very strange feeling, so I just want to make sure I'm doing it right!

    Any insight into this plan would be outstanding. I just want to make sure I'm "doing" it right!

    Thanks!
