Nut substitute in cookie recipe that's not Chocolate Chips?
Hey all, I am going to make the Craisins recipe for Black Forest Cookies (http://www.oceanspray.com/recipes/Black_Forest_Coo... and it calls for a cup of pecans. If it didn't already have a cup of chocolate chips in it, I'd substitute chocolate chips for the nuts, but that seems like a LOT of chocolate chips and it may overpower the cookies. Any thoughts on another substitution?

I'm afraid if I don't use the nuts or something else, I'll lose some of the quantity of the cookies. Help!

I have made these before and they are so good.
I did omit the nuts as my family and I like them without, I didn't notice any less in the quantity of the recipe.
But you can add 1/2 cup of choc.chips and 1/2 cup of craisins to equal the 1 cup of the nuts you want to replace.

If you like your cookies soft and chewy, then the best recipe is Alton Brown of Food Network's "Good Eats" fame. These cookies turn out perfectly every time: CHEWY CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES Ingredients * 2 sticks unsalted butter * 2 1/4 cups bread flour * 1 teaspoon salt * 1 teaspoon baking soda * 1/4 cup sugar * 1 1/4 cups brown sugar * 1 egg * 1 egg yolk * 2 tablespoons milk * 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract * 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips Directions Heat oven to 375 degrees F. Melt the butter in a heavy-bottom medium saucepan over low heat. Sift together the flour, salt, and baking soda and set aside. Pour the melted butter in the mixer's work bowl. Add the sugar and brown sugar. Cream the butter and sugars on medium speed. Add the egg, yolk, 2 tablespoons milk and vanilla extract and mix until well combined. Slowly incorporate the flour mixture until thoroughly combined. Stir in the chocolate chips. Chill the dough, then scoop onto parchment-lined baking sheetS. Bake for 12-14 minutes or until golden brown. Rotate the baking sheet for even browning. Cool completely and store in an airtight container. *The secret to the chewiness is using bread flour (which is higher in protein than all-purpose flour) and a larger ratio of brown sugar to white sugar.

Like the above poster said, you don't have to use them. But you can put whatever sounds good. Any other kid of nut would be good.
