If a person doesn't believe in God, does that mean they don't like themselves?
From a psychological standpoint, not religious nor philosophical view. "I'm not good enough for God", might be what they are saying. Or perhaps they want to be better than God, and not be up-staged? Personally, an humble acceptance of God is very healthy.

John 16 BIBLE
"I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. 13But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. 14He will bring glory to me by taking from what is mine and making it known to you. 15All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will take from what is mine and make it known to you.
16"In a little while you will see me no more, and then after a little while you will see me."
19Jesus saw that they wanted to ask him about this, so he said to them, "Are you asking one another what I meant when I said, 'In a little while you will see me no more, and then after a little while you will see me'? 20I tell you the truth, you will weep and mourn while the world rejoices. You will grieve, but your grief will turn to joy. 21A woman giving birth to a child has pain because her time has come; but when her baby is born she forgets the anguish because of her joy that a child is born into the world. 22So with you: Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy. 23In that day you will no longer ask me anything. I tell you the truth, my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name. 24Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete.

How can a person who does not believe in god be saying they're not good enough for god? That makes no sense. Similarly, they can't want to be better than god because ... wait for it .. they *don't* believe in god.
I could psychologize that people who do believe in god have an inability to accept the fact that the world isn't fair. Or they are unable to control their own behavior unless they believe they can't get away with anything bad. Perhaps they lack a moral compass and would rape, cheat, and steal if they didn't believe some "parent in the sky" were ready to punish them.
But that would be silly.

If a person doesn't believe in God... it's because they don't believe in God. It doesn't mean anything is wrong with them. This might be difficult to understand for some, but some people don't believe the mindless supernatural teachings of religion.

I will answer your question but I'm at a loss to know what you are saying in the sentence after the question.
If a person doesn't believe in God it means they don't yet know themselves fully.
For God reveals to us who we really are and what we are created to be and do.

Where does your hatred and insecurity come from?
It is surely you that are taking the ego trip of slighting anyone who thinks even slightly differently to yourself!!
No wonder Christianity is being called the nasty religion!!
When will Christians rediscover the loving god and start acting like it?!!!

what does liking yourself have to do with believing in God? People like themselves by default. It is impossible to not like yourself. Even suicides like themselves, they just cannot stand to have their big ego be seen in a neg light, so they self-destruct.
Why go around with huge stores of "self-esteem"? Seems like alot of stuff to carry around all the time.

Perhaps. Perhaps some who say they don't believe in God secretly do and have such thoughts, but I think it's very difficult for you to fathom someone ACTUALLY not believing in God. If they don't believe in him, they're not concerned with being good enough for or upstaged by him. If they don't believe in him, they don't believe He is a part of all of us and so wouldn't believe that they don't like themselves.

From an atheist standpoint - rubbish.
I like myself fine thank you very much. Why exactly is a belief in a diety "very healthy".
Would you also say it is fine to believe in the boogie man and the tooth fairy?

Usually it means they grew up and no longer accept the fairy tales shoved down their throats as truth. But yes, if he/she were real I would find myself much better then your genocidal maniacal dictator god and NO, silent obedience is NEVER healthy.

lol. If they were to say that then technically they would still believe in God. People usually don't believe in God because they don't believe that he exist.
