With all of the Economic Woes going on, When will the Government start to seriously debate the Fair Tax?

On a national stage? the only negative I can think of is, Limiting Government Power. Great if you ask me.

Update:

@Jim, the fair tax will force that on the government!

Update 2:

@water true, but at least they wont be taking the funds directly out of my pockets with taxes.

Update 3:

@ Linz good point, But Im sure Churches are doing that know. most just call themselves "community centers"

Just balance the budget. Stop spending what you don't have.

How taxes are distributed says nothing about total amount of tax You do realize that, don't you?

It is completely possible to tax everyone a flat fair 70%. Meanwhile it's also possible to tax the poor 1%, the middle class 5%, and the wealthy 15%.

. . . I truly don't understand what you think is so great about a "Fair Tax". Probably because you don't either.

The problem with getting rid of the IRS is that the IRS does way more than you realize, ie. just dealing with our taxes. Don't you know that the IRS (with their power to yank tax-exempt status) is one of the great bulwarks that keeps most of these fundamentalist churches from telling people how to vote? They already meddle in government as much as they dare, trying to legislate religion: attempting to legalize prayer and teaching of creationism in public schools, the Ten Commandments in government buildings, banning abortion, etc, etc.

Check into the FairTax Act further. Huckabee even admitted in a campaign speech that one of the reasons he was for it was because, if it passed, the government couldn't keep churches from preaching directly about politics. You seem intelligent, and so I'm sure you've noticed the- shall we be polite and say 'suggestibility'?- of many American voters. Giving these 'preachers' the ability to tell their congregations that they'd better vote for Candidate B or they're going to Hay-ell... what devastation would this wreak on our already shaky democracy? If you got rid of the IRS, how would you keep these militant churches in line?

I never understand why people don't ask the right question

    uhm maybe like this one?

how come the best country of the whole world was unable to avoid the economy crisis?

    possible answer could be hum???

maybe because in order to obtain some kind of result you need to make it happpen

    example

I want people to buy my PC anti virus?

well if nobody has a virus I can't sell my product

so lets make some virus and spread it

then people will rush to me to buy my anti virus

    that is called market strategy

neh of course not our Government love us why they should do such terrible thing to us?!

An economy in bad shape is no place for a fair tax. Based on the deficits we face now I would say the government has no budgetting skills, so just imagine trying to create a budget on revenues that will have more fluctuation in the fair tax system. I'm not saying there aren't flaws in our current system, but I'd support a flat tax reform over fair tax.

They will not debate it unless Republicans win big in 2010 with that as a major tenet for their agenda. Democrats love the progressive tax system and will laugh at it calling it an "unfair" system that only helps the wealthy and hurts the middle class; you know, all that liberal BS.

You answered your own question the "government is not going to look at anything that would limit their control over us. Since Obama took office they have been salivating all over themselves at the prospect of complete control over American citizens and their paychecks.

i agree with you. but i doubt it will ever happen because i cannot see government willingly limiting its own power.

Get real. We live in a Kleptocracy that wants us dead. Great idea, though.
