Getting a new kitten....?

wanting to know peoples experience. We have a 2 yr old DSH, neutered, very playful. Adopting a new kitten in the very near future, do you think a male or female will be more accepted? Gromit is not possessive ot ill tempered. Hes not a mams boy or cuddly cat....he likes to play (a bit rough at times0 with us & our 9 year old pug. He is more of a loner than a in your face cat...

We just recently had to lose our older cat (she was 5, RIP baby) and they played well too. Any suggestions one male or female? Thanks.

Update:

lol yes I do know how they are & Im aware of how long it can take cats to adjust. We very recently lost our other cat & tho I was going to wait a bit longer to find a new kitten I do think also that the younger Gromit is when we introduce a new "sibling" the easier the transition will go over...at least Im hoping lol

Update 2:

I had been thinking female to start with but thought Id get a few views & see what others had to say....& BTW Poppi is ADORABLE lol♥

We now have four cats and two dogs (and a python) in our family. In our experience we just let them get on with it, they soon get used to each other, just like children who are left alone do.

This is our latest addition 'Poppy', she arrived with us after remembrance day and was eating with the other three within days.

From left to right, Holly a 13 yr old female, Juno 18month female, Frankie 1year old male and Poppy who is 9 weeks.

Ps. Monty, my python lives in a vivarium and is NOT a good mixer.

I would focus less on the sex and more on the personality, but I would say female just to be safe. But if it came down to it and you found a male kitten with a spectacular playful personality to match your older cat's, then I would recommend taking a chance. Just don't give up if he doesn't adjust immediately! You know how cats are.
