What should i do?????...Boot problem?

What should i do?????...Boot problem?

I was running windows 7(d:) so i tried formatting my c:(containing my old windows vista), it didnt format complete(windows was unable to complete the format) and now after restarting,

1...my system cannot read from my hard disk

2...i cannot access my bios setup

3...cant read os installation disks(boot from disk)

4...all i get is a blank screen with a blinking underscore in the upper left corner of the screen

...

what should i do?????

my vista partition was c:,so i installed my windows 7 on d:,

after booting from d: i decided to wipe my vista c: and use only windows 7 so i tried formatting the c:.....which started the problem.....

does this have anything to do with my MBR

Probably the reason why u gt this problem is because u cannot format C:\ drive and have os on D:\ drive in the OS environ ment. what i suggest is go into the set up clean format both C n D drives and then try a clean installtion. Its maybe an issue with the MBR i thing anywhich ways always remember U cannot format the C in the OS always better to try from installation process.

Yes this is an MBR problem

(especially if c: and d: are seperate drives, not just partitions on the same one)

Your MBR is stored on the first part of the first drive in your system which windows automagically names c:

If it is wiped, your computer won't even know there is a Windows 7 install on a seperate drive.

you should still be able to boot from CD or get into your BIOS

Do you get at least to the Computer Manufacturers logo? If that happens, it means that mainboard is OK.. If you get that blinking cursor, most likely your system is unable to boot from HDD. It could point towards improper format or bad HDD. I'd recommend you get your hands on a Live Linux CD.. if the laptop boots from there, see if you can check HDD/ install Linux there. If that is possible, HDD should be fine. You'll need to reformat your computer, I'd remove the partitions, then re partition the drive, format & reinstall W7. Love W7 BTW..

1 if you are getting this one you should fir try removing the HDD from the socket and put it on the table with all connecters connected and try booting it should boot

or try connecting the cables again firmly

also you should hear some rather faint beeps .

after the usual proces reinstall windows it should work.

    then try formatting and reinstalling

if it didnt work remove the bios battery in the mobo so that it will return to default settings

then try the method one it should come to life

cause i faced the same problem i can solve the problem i tried everty thing

windows likes to be installed at the start of the disk so the answer to format both c and d and then reinstall should work.

however if you are having trouble booting from a windows disk try using "Ultimate boot cd" and use one of the tools on there to format, then reboot with the windows cd and you should be ok.

Question #25: My hard drive won't format/ My computer won't read my hard drive.

It sounds like your hard drive is malfunctioning. You can take the hard drive out of your computer and hook it up as a slave to another computer. Download seatools:

    http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/support/downloads... <-- Seatools

and run a long generic test on the hard drive (be sure you don't run it on the testing computer's C drive).

If the hard drive fails, you need to replace it. If the hard drive passes, try formatting it on the test computer. You will probably need to go to administrator tools -> computer management -> disk management to do so. You can also use Darik's Boot and Nuke to erase all data and then use the test computer to format it.

    http://www.dban.org/download <-- Darik's boot and nuke

(WARNING: disconnect the primary drive on the test computer to prevent erasing the wrong drive)

If none of that works, it is probably a hardware issue on the original computer and would have to be handled on a case-by-case basis.

It all points to a motherboard problem. You should show it to a computer technician. Its a very unusual problem...
