A URL is a specific locator for a page within a website.

A Web Address is the index.html or main page of a web address or website,

from within this website you may find hundreds of different pages that have specified URLs,

They overlap significantly, but they are not exactly the same.

A URL is a specific format used to locate resources on the Internet. They can be web servers (if they start with 'http://'/ or 'https://'),/ but they don't have to be. "mailto:billg@microsoft.com" is a URL but not a web address.

A web address is the address of a web server or page, but it can be in any format. "www.microsoft.com" is a web address, but it is not an URL. "http://www.yahoo.com"/ is both an URL and a web address.

URL, contrary to some other answers, is not "Universal Resource Locator;" It is "Uniform Resource Locator," which is a type of "Uniform Resource Identifier."

A web address might just mean the address of your home, but assuming you do not have eight legs, it would be the same as a Uniform Resource Locator; this is also known as a "Domain Name."

URL and web address are the same thing. answers.yahoo.com is both an address and a URL.

A properly formatted URL will have 'http://'/ (or one of several other possiblities) on the front of the address.

The acronym "URL" is merely a more technical way of saying "web address". In reality, they are the same.

I would of thought they were the same thing but if i had to guess a difference i would think a web address would be like google.com whereas a url would be like the following search for puppies http://www.google.ca/search?q=puppies&ie=utf-8&oe=...

URL has the http://www./ before the website

the web address just has the www.sitedomain.com or sitedomain.com

url takes you to a specific spot on the site, while the web adress takes you to the main page on the site.

    ex:

    url: www.myspace.com/blahblah

    web address: www.myspace.com
