My internet gradually slows down. Why?

When i turn the computer on at the begining of the day the internet is quick. In ten minutes it's a little bit slower. Gradually the internet just loads and never finishes loading a page until i unplug the router and plug it back in again. Then the process begins again. Sometimes it takes an hour sometimes it takes 5 minutes. Why is this happening? By the way I have a new mac and this happens on firefox and safari web browsers.

Update:

Firefox and Safari take up a few gigs. I have 230 left thats not the problem.

This is happening at my router at home which only one or two computers is using at a time. It does not matter how many computers are on it though so I don't believe that is the problem either.

Since the problem is temporarily fixed by restarting the router, I'd say that the problem of your internet slowing down is due to the router itself, rather than to the computer.

One way to know for sure is to either buy or borrow a newer router (e.g. Linksys) and see if that fixes your problem. Alternatively, bypass the router altogether for a day and see if that also solves the problem. If so, then you know you need a new router.

    Good luck!

Are you using a shared wireless internet? Generally, large web sites get more traffic as the day goes on, and they begin to slow down a bit (not like you're describing, though). However, if you're using the Internet at school or work, where other people are using the same wireless modem as you, that modem might be getting more traffic as the day goes on and, thus, freezing up.
