How do I back up my laptop?

I've had a sony laptop for a year or two and know I should "back up". I'm not so bothered about documents but I have a lot of music and photos I don't want to lose.

What's the best way to do it?

Get a blank disc, or a flash drive, then copy them all to there. That's the cheapest way, besides e-mailing everything to yourself.
