My one year old son won't stop crying and hasn't been sleeping or eating, help!?

I am at a loss. My son for the past three days has been crying, not eating, and sleeping only tiny spurts at a time. He has cried so much his voice is hoarse. I have tried tylenol, thinking he's having problems with teething. Didn't work. I have tried letting him sleep in bed with me, thinking he needed comfort, didn't work. He will only eat his yogurt in the morning and then spit everything else out. He will drink no problem. I don't know what to do. He wants to be comforted and soothed every minute of the day. He is screaming at this very minute but I am unable to calm him. What should I do? He is usually a fun happy baby who loves to chase his sisters around. Now, he's angry, upset, and frustrated with whatever. He has even started hitting his head against things if I don't respond to him. What could be the problem?! He's only one for pete's sake. Should I take him to the doctor?

Update:

No constipation, No diarreha, No ear tugging. He isn't biting, drooling as clues to teething. No doubling over as if gassy, no farting. Just a very unhappy screaming little man. He will sleep an hour then wake up screaming and wanting to be soothed. He sleeps better during the day than at night time. He is good when we are out of the house. He loves to go for walks and never screams and cries the whole time we are gone. He only cries and does all this stuff when he is at home.

I would at least call the doctor. There are so many things going on at that age - cutting molars, developmental transitions, separation anxiety - these are all normal; they can cause those behaviors, and they will pass in time. But he is clearly uncomfortable, and he won't eat. That could be caused by an illness - like some others suggested, it may be an ear infection. I'd talk to a doctor if for no other reason than that you want to do everything possible to help him. Good luck. Hope he feels better soon.

I have a son, Joey Niceforo, who is a young 27 year old tenor, with a group called "DESTINO" recording in Vancouver Bc, Canada.

For the last few weeks Joey has had a cold. Just a few days ago he developed an ear ache, a swollen ear and loss of hearing. He was diagnosed with serous otitis media (middle ear infection).

The major concern we have is that Joey and the Group DESTINO have been booked to open the Marie Osmond show in Disney World on April 3,

Have a quick remedy for our son??

Joey's ear got better just before flying.

He also got the special ear plugs for flying, and arrived in Florida, from Vancouver, on April 1st. On April 2nd he told us the ear was almost 100 percent, and he will, with the other, great DESTINO tenors be performing, in the COLORADO BALL ROOM DISNEY WORLD tonight at 7 pm.

This help was so effective, and helpful, to our young Canadian tenor, Joey Niceforo. I'm sure this input and therapy advice will, and has helped others.

Does he have any other symptoms?

    Fever, diarrhea, constipation?

Is he pulling at his ears?

My first guess would be an ear infection, which can be very painful. One ER doctor had to give my one year old codeine to get her to quiet down.

Teething hurts but it never made mine like that. The other possibility could be something gastric, as in his tummy hurts really bad.

Yes I would definitely take him to the doctor tomorrow, or the ER tonight if he is still in so much pain.

It sounds like your son may be suffering from an earache..or maybe an ear infection. Please bring him to the ER asap. When you put him down there is so much pressure in his ear, that's the reason he's not sleeping..poor little boy. I feel for him!

I was plague with ear infections as a baby and as a young child. Quickly get him help. Give him motrin/ibuprofen as it will relieve the inflammation. Good luck

If you want to put your baby to sleep in 20 seconds you must get the "Instant Baby Sleep" MP3 sound track. Here is their official web-site: http://www.instantbabysleep.net/

The sound track gently produces energy over the full human hearing spectrum with an embedded pulse that gently eases the brain to the Alpha state well known for drowsiness and sleep induction.

Get him to a doctor and have him checked out. There is not enough information to make a good guess.
