What does advertisements say about our society?

I don't know if anyone noticed but advertisements targeting men are usually pretty positive all around, while advertisement targeting women is usually either emotionally abusive or physically abusive towards males(from grown men to little boy's). What exactly does this mean about society? When one class responds well to positive messages and another class responds well to hateful ignorant messages?

It has zero to do with gender. Gender wars are a means, not an end. The battle of the sexes is a lucrative tool used to make certain members of society feel better than others, in this case masculine members versus feminine members. It strips the rest of your personality away and compartmentalizes you into being This Type. If you aren't This Type, then you ARE That Type. Here's why That Type sucks and why This Type is better. Then commercial will then give some conjured-up example (simplified for your already-simplified personality, smooshed into a 15 or 30 second pocket of time, showing actors doing and saying things that are not real, and often using "humor" that caters to the broadest audience or lowest common denominator. Or both. If it isn't women vs men, it's a man vs boy or boy vs stster or woman vs women (or "stalker mops" because creepy obsessiveness and disruption is funny ha ha, get it?) or whatever else it takes to pit us against one another. Individual thinking is extremely dangerous for profit margins. A product's purpose isn't to make life better or easier. Its ONE purpose is to make stockholders happy. Lame stereotypes are easily digested and require no thinking.. That's fertile selling ground.

Advertisers are concerned with making you want a product or service. With both genders this means you are never anywhere close to being worthwhile. What that means for men and what that means for women are two different universes, but both suck equally.

Men spend less money on toiletries- about 80% of toiletries in a store are marketed to women. We make companies owned and operated by men very rich. Women are never smooth, fresh, young, clean, moist, dry, bright-faced, colorful, pleasant to smell, thin, young, busy, relaxed, sleepy, alert, warm, cold, etc ENOUGH so they have to buy product X or they will die, and die alone.

Men seem to be getting more products marketed to them, but nowhere near as much as women. But it doesn't matter because commercials aren't real. They are not real. Remember that. They are not even truthful most of the time. But they, like films, are fictional portrayals of life and are only as valuable as the value you place in them.

Ads are baloney and anyone who pays much attention to them is willfully allowing their mental environment to be polluted. Eliminate as much advertising as possible. Just trying to for one day will blow your mind. No TV commercials, no ads on websites, no magazines unless they are ad-free. Billboards should be illegal and ads of a disruptive nature shouldn't be permitted, and most marketing should be opt-in only.

What ads say about our society is that we are incomplete in ourselves, everybody probably hates us, and until we buy this or that, are needs haven't been met. "Needs" that huge corporations created, and then conveniently help fill Ads say we suck. They point out that we are ugly and inept. I don't feel we are. But if we're, have no fear, corporations are here-- to take your money and make your supposedly incomplete life into an AWESOME one. Ads are there to brand and society's purpose is to show brand loyalty. Ads say we should be either consuming, or thinking of what we are going to be consuming, If you stop to think for even a minute, you aren't consuming. If you aren't consuming, you aren't being all that you can be. What ads say about us is that we are a gullible species for being so intelligent.

What ads say is that society would fall to pieces without advertisements to guide us. Ads say "society pays too much attention to ads". Observe your post.

We are happily consuming ourselves into our own extinction. Advertisements are the first step on that path. Eschew ads and you know what they will say about society? Nothing worth hearing. Kind of like how it is now. Except right now we pay advertisers a lot for the luxury of having ads in our face.

You need to complain about these type of adverts. The more complaints that the company gets who makes these adverts, the less "Men bashing" will occur. I have complained about a few adverts with some succes, i.e recently I got apology from a big company and the advert was removed and rehashed.

Saying that, you have to be carefull how you complain, i.e do not just make a general complaint. Say logically why the advert is not a good idea and why it is insulting. Compare it to their competitor's advert which is not anti male and conclude who they think made a better advert and who is more likely to get increased sales etc.

Many women do not like anti male adverts as well.
