What has Obama done to make him a socialist?

As someone who has actually lived in countries like Canada and Germany, I am baffled at people who claim Obama is socialist. It seems to me that on every issue Obama has been at most, a center right President. For example:

Healthcare: The health bill right now not only does not contain any kind of public option, but it does not allow people to import drugs from Canada to save Americans money. To the horror of both progressives (and tea party patriots) the bill forces people to buy from private companies. That is a very un-socialist bill.

Unions- The health bill as it is written pays for a chunk of its cost with a tax on health care for unions, the so-called Cadillac insurance plans. Again, this is not a socialist policy at all.

War- Obama has escalated the war in Afghanistan, which there is nothing inherently un-socialist about war itself, but the progressives who support socialist policies tend to oppose war escalation.

As someone who has actually seen socialist policies in practice, ie living in Canadian health care, I am at a loss to find anything socialist about Obama.

Update:

Wow, as an independent I am kind of shocked that such vitriol came from several different apparent conservatives:

"BTW the sky is orange, because you dont really understand the defintion of Blue"

"From your perspective (which is really down the toilet)"

Why insult? I asked a completely neutral question, I tried my hardest not to offend either side, but I was attacked for merely posing a question.

You're asking the wrong audience. I posted here yesterday asking what the difference between a socialist and an American liberal was and there was not one intelligent conservative response. My 3 brothers are all intelligent conservative Republicans. They differ EXTREMELY STRONGLY with the typical YA conservative on the need to back up what you say with facts.

You're right, Obama is not a socialist. Socialism is merely the vehicle he prefers to use to deliver US citizens into the hands of Comminist elites. You're wrong about the health care bill. Why do you think it's being worked out behind closed doors? No transparency at all. The bill will be the end of private insurance, guaranteed. Obama is merely going to Afghanistan for face value. He laid out a timeline for crying out loud! His mother attended a school that was very anti american. He's been brainwashed his entire life. Obama is a disciple of Saul Alinski-however you spell it. It is what it is. Obama is a limosine liberal, completely out of touch with working people. He's turning the working class into the welfare class. That is his goal, make no mistake.

Obama has no bearing on the health care bill right now. He can only act as a cheer leader because drafting the bill is Congress's job.

I don't think he is a Socialist. He is just another corporate sell out who happens to be a Democrat. There is no difference between Bush and Obama, and Republicans and Democrats.

From your perspective (which is really down the toilet) I can see why you think Obama is center right. I think he's solidly left, but not radically left. But then I'm an American, a sovereign with a government that serves me, not the other way around.

You can't live any time at all in a socialist country before your brain starts to twist into a mindset where "our government knows what's best for us" instead of being able to think for yourself. We came to America to get away from the way Europeans do things. Don't forget that!

    Brother Obama:

Is that the n-e-g-r-o dialect that Harry Reid (the supposed liberal non racist) was talking about?

I in basic terms disagree which includes his white 0.5. The unaffordable Healthcare Act substitute into advertised as to maintain funds. it does no longer, hasn't and could no longer. So there is not any longer any way it is going to help the agencies. fairly the agencies are dumping workers, so as that they do no longer could prefer to participate. The unaffordable Healthcare Act is a approximately administration and in basic terms one small step in a a lot greater desirable plan. agencies prefer to chop back expenditures, that's why the organisation I paintings for has exceedingly promoted wellbeing mark downs plans, which runs opposite to the Unaffordable Healthcare Act. you besides mght have been unaware of the emphasis on earnings inequality. If it fairly isn't any longer approximately socialism, what's? BTY: I strongly help Justice Thomas, as optimal conservatives do.

    lol yea sure thing.

Healthcare: The president WANTS the public option

Unions: lol, really. apparently you missed the announcement they they are going do discuss raising the level so that unions dont get that tax. lol How about the payoffs to the unions in the stimulus to pay benefits, or the soon to follow attempt to unionize goverment security department. Hrm didnt unions get offered a chunk of GM? haha yea Obama doesnt support unions at every step. He hates Unions thats probably why they are his major supporters. Maybe in imagination land where you apparently reside.

    Government takeover of private industry.

Government strong arming bond holders out of debt they rightfully claim.

You are beyond clueless and woefully misinfomed. Or maybe I'm not privy to the super secret definiton of socialism as the progressive define it but according to the definitions we use here in reality MANY of his actions are a step toward socialism according to every writen defintion.

BTW the sky is orange, because you dont really understand the defintion of Blue. No I wont give examples, but trust me you know know what Blue is and the sky is clearly orange.

The people that suggest he's socialist don't know what a true socialist is.

Nothing. Which is sort of why I have started to contemplate my opinions of him
