Headed to Denver - have one day - where should I go snowboarding?
I'll be in Denver for the long weekend - want to get some snowboarding in. Where should I go? Thinking Breckenridge, since I'll be close, but am looking for suggestions. Don't want to drive longer than 2 hours, so places like Crested Butte are out. Also, will have 2x4 rental car - should I upgrade to 4 or AWD?
Thanks in advance.

You don't need a 4wd! You only need to know how to drive in the snow. Having a 4wd doesn't help unless you know how to drive on snow...they only make you more confident, and more likely to get into an accident! Most important thing is to never do anything abrupt...don't swerve, don't slam on your brakse, don't gun the gas!
On the weekends, if it's snowing, it will take you more than 2 hours from downtown to Loveland. I'd suggest Loveland, but I've never skied there...don't know how much they have in the way of easy runs...looks totally steep to me!
Arapahoe Basin is just over the pass, then Keystone, if you take Hwy 6 (get off the Interstate right before the Tunnel). All closer than Breck. Skip that exit and go on to Copper. I love Copper...really difficult to ind yourself on too difficult a run, if you're a beginner...it's so nicely laid out! Face the mountain....to the right, easy runs...they get harder as you go left. Black and double black at the top to the left. You're a Blue skier....stay right...You stay safe. Don't really need the map!

I like Copper, its close to Breckenridge, only about 20 minutes away, give or take, the runs are nice and long, there are many different levels and a terrain park. I was there last sunday and it was beautiful out and not very crowded.
As for the car, I guess it depends on when you will be here and what the weather looks like, I would suggest upgrading to a 4x4 if the weather says snow or even flurries, sometimes the parking lots can be packed snow and slick.

Consider Echo Mountain. It is the closest and easiest to get to. It has everything from easy to extreme trails. Check the long-range weather forecast. Unless snow is in the forecast for that weekend, a front wheel drive should be OK. AWD is better but only careful driving and good tires help on ice.

Keystone and Loveland are closer than Breckenridge. Loveland is less expensive.
Check the weather when you get there. If it's going to be snowing in the mountains you should upgrade to 4WD or AWD.

go to Aspen/Snowmass it gets alot of fresh powder and it is relly nice. If you have a wife or a girlfriend then they would probly enjoy the shops down at the base of the mountain. If you are a person that likes a challeng or does alot of triks then you could check out the verity of rams and terain parks there. If you have kids then you can put them in lessons there to. Depends on your skills. Breck would be good if you're a Blue/Green person. But if you're a badass, I suggest making the trip up to Vail. Breck is popular and the blacks get tracked out quick.
