How many children could I babysit being unregistered?
Hi, I need experienced advice only please. I was told that I can take care of no more than about three, and I live in Texas. If I do more than that it would be illegal?
Also I live an an apartment, so if I wanted to get registered or listed with the state, can I living in an apartment?

I know this one, I live in Texas and I babysat 2 (plus my own) children without being registared, but the minute you get even 1 more then your considered a day care and must be registered. You can get registered living in any type of home, they will come and check the house out(or apartment) to make sure it is a safe environment and all that jazz. I ended up moving, but at one time I was looking into it. I bet if you googled it you could find more info cause I checked into over a year ago.
Edit: lilli is also right about regulations with the land lord, some places do not allow you to run "businesses" out of your home.

Depends if you have the room and the safety/emergency equipment throughout your apartment that mandatory by law when you become registered. The ages play a major factor in how many you can watch and your age as well. If it's only going to be you watching them, I would advise you to keep it at no more than three. If it's the money that means more to you, then it's up to the parents and you have to be honest and let them know you'll be sitting alone and how many. Let the parent decides and then it's totally up to you but remember if someone gets it out for you (for any reason) you end up with the law taking your license. It more serious than you realize with that field of work. Don't be greedy, be smart and legal.

I think you would have to get the permission of the landlord first in writing. I don't know about Texas but where I live in CT you cannot watch children in your home unless you are licensed and there are things you have to have such as a certain amount of space, a separate room for sleeping, a sink near a changing table, a yard for outside play and it needs to be fenced in if it's near any traffic, among many other things they will look for.

You county office would have the licensing requirements (each one is likely different, and ages matter), and what is allowed both licensed/registered and unlicensed. There are probably also requirements of how the home needs to be setup, and your landlord may have regulations on this too, if its considered running a home business.
