Confused about internet network card?
Lately i've really been considering getting a laptop. Nothing fancy, just something to surf the web, chat, that sort of thing. I was discussing this with a friend, and she told me she got a laptop and when she did that, she got a network card installed through verizon and only pays 50 dollars a year for her internet. So i thought that sounded like a good idea. But everywhere i look online, i can't find anything about this.
My question is, does this plan really exist? If so, how good is it? If it doesnt, should i go with a wireless router? I really want to be able to travel and not worry that my internet signal will be non existent.
ETA: She told me i wouldnt have to get a cellphone or anything with verizon, just the card. Is this true? I just want to get all the info before i get myself into something and get in over my head.

okay a wireless router will only help you at home or office or whereever it is you put it. and it only has a range of somewhere between 150 to 300 feet. Also you would have to have a high speed internet service connected to it for it to work, like cable or dsl. The thing that you buddy has it real and works fairly well, though not near as fast as cable or dsl it has its advantage of working anywhere you can get signal. Just think of it as a cell phone with verizon, if you get signal with you verizon cell phone and you have a verizon usb modem, then you will get service. They dont sell these through stores like you buy it and go. You sign up for service like you would a cell phone, and as far as i know verizon, att, and criket have this. heres the verizon site for what you looking for its called the usb modem.

if you want it through someone else just go to there site and look for same thing.
hope it helps

yes it exist but it is more of a cell phone than it is a network card, i know in the philippines you get internet to your house from the cellphone company (smart broad band), im sure if you call a cell phone service provider and ask them they will know just what your talking about. did you check the words verizon laptop on the internet?

if you are near a town your laptop should have wireless built into it so search for a free hook up via your wireless network on the laptop, otherwise you need a wirelss router, but do not need the verizon card, as you can just hook into it without. it is verizons way of extoring money out of you. almost all laptops are wireless ready as they have to be, they are not ment to sit at home, get it?

The plan exists over 'verizon wireless'. the plan is through mobile broadband and i think on what your friend was referring to was a network card that can make your laptop receive the mobile broadband.
