hurt my ankle a couple of days ago. How long should I wait...?

a couple of days ago, I went to put my leg up, and wasn't paying attention, and swung my ankle right into the corner of an end table. It hurt like hell and swelled just a small amount, but welted instantly. Ever since, I've been limping. I get random pains up to my knee, and occasional tingling in my toes... I know it isn't broken (the swelling was so minor, and went away by morning. this happened late at night). How long should I wait before going to a doctor? I don't want to go in if it's something minor, but I don't want to injure it further, either. there is a small bruise there, but nothing that concerns me, and I know it isn't the bruise itself that hurts. Also, I've been wrapping it with an ace bandage to give it some extra support. Any idea what the difference is between a bruised bone and a fracture? And how long do you think before I should call a doctor?

    If you can stay off it for a couple of days or use crutches for a few days, that would be ideal.

    Also, you want to keep it elevated as much as possible, use ice on it for 10 mins every hour. (I use a frozen bag of popcorn kernels).

    Take some sort of antiinflammatory like Ibuprofen or aspirin, whichever works best for you. Take this every 4 to 6 hours as the packaging suggests.

    If it is not better in a couple of more days, you should have it looked at.

    If it is swollen, very discolored or the pain gets worse, see the doctor for sure.

    Keeping it lightly wrapped is a good idea. Keep an eye on the tightness of the wrap, not too tight.

    Go to a chiropractor. A doctor will probably give you pain medications which are not good. My grandma took those after a hip replacement or something like that and she was acting like she was pmsing.

    I trust chicks more than men as far as the chiropractors go. I've gone to guy chiropractors and they seem to like the snapping sound joints make as you pop them back into place.

    It doesnt seem bad enough that you need to go to the doctor; if it was bad enough, you would know. If it is too painful to walk on go on crutches for a few days and ice it on and off when you are relaxing.
