Why do gamers bother with PC?

I have read a million questions pertaining to games on the PC. Why do you people bother? True, there are titles on PC that are out for other next gen consoles which are better to play on the PC, but not many. Questions that begin like "I just downloaded blah blah blah for PC and blah blah blah blah blah. If you aren't playing the Sims or some MMORPG then do yourself a favor and get in the now. Go buy a console for god's sake. Better graphics and sound quality (barely) are not even close to enough to get me to spend $2000+ dollars on a computer that can't even handle a decent gaming library. So I ask again, why???

Its prefrence, it varys from person to person, some people like the aspect of using a mouse and keyboard, for FPS, a mouse is a better option only if you prefer it. BTW it wont cost $2000 just to make a good gaming pc, in the UK i can spend about £400 £500 for a PC that would be better than a PS3 and 360, graphics and sound wise.[In UK terms thats the cost of a average Laptop / PC Of course theres a range of library for the PC from MMORPG, to FPS to Racing.

Id prefer a PC since most title are avalible on it, games are often cheaper on the PC due to licensing and manufacturing locking, like ubi soft have to pay a fee to microsoft in order to make the game run on 360 same with all consoles, but PC games dont have that restriction. And the most common reason is, you can use the PC as a standard pc for other functions, my world revolves around college / uni not just gaming, a PC with those kinda specs can be used for everything, from photo development, creating animation music and to render files.

As well as a PC can be upgraded every so often unlike console when components mess up you have to send it back under warranty but when it expires your left witha dead console, sony and microsoft dont sell components seperatly for the consoles, as well as the components pre installed cant be removed as easily unless your a technician, most of it is soldered down.

$2000 thats how much it woulda cost a few years ago, now high end components are allot cheaper if you know your stuff.

For the purpose of gaming only, its cheaper to buy a console, for multi usage and some serious processing then a gaming PC.

The graphics and playablility ARE vastly superior.

It does vary from game to game too, though. Recent examples would be Batman: Arkham Asylum (freeflow combat designed for console) and Dragon Age: Origins (vastly superior on PC, micromanaging, whole new level of gameplay).

Another point that you bring up that I consider fallacious is the 2000$ point. For a great gaming PC you need a good processor and an excellent graphics card, that's it. Spend 600$ and you'll be playing with far better graphics and quality than a console, sound and everything.

On a more serious tone, PCs have always been considered first in gaming to Consoles. Compare Windows to Mac. Mac is very pretty and works great, will never mess you around and you don't need to mess around with the parts every year, though it doesn't compare to PC on a gaming level.

    consoles have better graphics?

lol, i have to disagree. gaming pc's will always run games in higher framerates than consoles b/c of video cards. even a cheap gpu will out-perform consoles. consoles aren't open-architecture like pc's. graphics wise, especially with the soon debut of nvidia's fermi and the current ati dx11 cards, consoles don't even come close to beating out gaming pc's.

sound quality? pc's motherboard 7.1 or a dedicated sound card will kill the consoles sound quality.

this is not just my opinion .. any pc gamer will know i'm speaking the truth.

Because I like PC games. :) I play my 360 all the time, and my other consoles some of the time, but sometimes I just feel like playing a PC game. It doesn't make me any less of a gamer and it certainly doesn't mean I'm not in the "now."

The PC is vastly superior to XBox, Playstation and Wii in every way.
