How long does it take to register birth and get certificate? (Philippine Birth)?

My son will be born mid Feb (Filipina Mother American Father) and we will need to register the birth and get the certificate so we can register the birth with the US Embassy. How long does it take from the time the baby is born until you receive the cert if you do everything right away? Where can I find processing times as well?

Update:

Please, actually READ the question before you answer. I am registering a birth certificate with the civil reg in the Philippines and I want to know how long it takes to get a copy of the birth cert.

First, the ONLY birth certificate the US embassy will accept is the one issued by the NSO. The local registry birth certificate will not be accepted as fraud is rife with them.

The local registry birth certificate only takes about a week. It can take from a few weeks to months for the NSO copy to become available, depending on where the child is born. My kids were born in the Naval Hospital, Cubi Point and the local registry was very good about getting them into the NSO system fast. I've heard of Americans who had kids born down south, in Mindanao, where it was months trying to get the NSO copy.

Once you get the NSO copy, and have all your evidence of US residency, you can file the Report of Birth Abroad, by appointment, with the US embassy. You file for a passport and social security card at the same time. Expect it to take about 6 weeks.

The father is the only to be able to do this. Also the father has to prove that he has lived in the US for so many years before the birth of the child.
