Near Death Experiences.?

It seems that when you hear of a near death experience its always following some traumatic accident. Do people who have terminal illnesses ever have such an experience and then are brought back or is it just a response to physical trauma?

Update:

Thanks all !

I had a profound "NED" in the ER in 1992 while comatose from diabetic ketoacidosis. I had an aeriel view of two medical professionals working on my body. My entire life played before my eyes like a video in super fast forward mode, pausing at moments when I had hurt someone's feelings or wronged someone. I felt a genuine remorse for those whom I had hurt in any way. And then I experienced what I can only describe as "the peace that passes all understanding" and the most wonderful feeling of well-being as I entered a warm light where two golden hands reached out. But back in the ER, efforts to save me were successful. It was excruciatingly painful to return to my physical body. Since then, I have lived a more purposeful life and I have no fear of death.

    Raji,

Some terminally ill persons have had NDEs in the past. I was comatose from diabetic ketoacidosis when I was a teenager and had such an experienxce. It was a life-changing experience for me. My wife and I became Christians about 15 years later after a very long search and study. Have a great week.

    Thanks,

David says to trust the BIBLE but he refuses to read and study it or he would know that no one in the BIBLE was ever "saved" by prayer alone. Nobody became a Christian by prayer in the first century. The examples are overwhelming:

Acts 2:38 (Pentecost), Acts 8:12 (Samaritans), Acts 8:36 (Ethiopian Eunuch), and others that he refuses to read about.

You might like a book called On Death And Dying, by K. Ross. She has listed hundreds of peoples accounts of near death experiences and it is quite fascinating for the hungry mind.

They don't "always" follow traumatic accidents. Many NDE's occur in those who have died from illnesses, during surgeries, or heart attacks, as well as terminal diseases. The same is true of NDE's in children.

I don't know but one theory is that when we are dying or very traumatised or ill, our brains malfunction. One part that malfunctions is the part of the brain which gives us a sense of where we are, so people feel like they are floating above their body etc. Hallucination also occurs.

Scientists have been able to find the part of the brain which gives out of body experiences, and when they stimulate it with an electrode the person feels like they are having an out of body experience.
