Cleaning help! Using vinegar and water but hate the smell..?
I am moving towards using greener cleaning products as well as to save money and I am wondering of ways to get rid of the smell of vinegar. I know it doesn't linger very long but I would love some suggestions on how to make it smell nicer. I've been told about adding some drops of lavender oils or citrus oils while I'm cleaning but wouldn't that leave oil spots on my cleaning area? Please advice. Thank you.

You don't have to use just vinegar and water. There are other options, depending on what you are cleaning.
You can go completely chemical free with ultra-high quality microfiber cloths, then you only use water. I have some made by a company called Norwex - as far as I know they are available in most english-speaking countries.
Here's another option for a liquid all-purpose environmentally friendly homemade product:
2 cups of water, 2 tablespoons of lemon juice, 1/2 teaspoon of liquid dish soap, 1 tablespoon of baking soda and 1 teaspoon of borax. Shake before using.
Baking soda and water work great if you need something slightly abrasive. For more ideas, try this website: www.sensible-house-cleaning-solutions.com - it has lots of different home-made cleaner for different jobs.

My favorite solution for cleaning everything in our house is ammonia, baking soda solution. To a gallon container put 2 to 3 cups pure ammonia, 1 to 1 and /12 cups baking soda and fill the rest of the container with hot water. Amazing how great this cleans. I also use white vinegar mixed with water to use for rinsing. If you save your 1 gallon size milk cartons this will be good for mixing the vinegar and water. You said your not liking the smell of vinegar so use a smaller amount of the vinegar and more water to the gallon for rinsing. I mark the bottles because I don't always use them up in one day. With the vinegar you could put anything with a better smell along in your gallon. The smell will dissipate quickly and leave a nice clean smell when finished. I found these recipes in my baking soda book for cleaning. Best of luck and have a great day.
