Leg Break Question. Have you heard of this at all? (10 pts)?

Ok. Somebody I know has a problem walking whic h appears to lie in the hip. His right leg is twisted to the side and when he walks his feet form almost a 90 degree angle. He is telling me that he is going to have a procedure where the doctor is going to break his femur in order to correct it. This makes no sense at all to me. Does it make sense to you? and why? Thanks.

This operation is common for birth defects involving the leg or foot orienting other than the usual direction. Sometimes it helps them walk with less pain, and for the leg and foot to grow in the manner that would end with the best quality of life. He might have pain in the back, hips, and other leg because of the other leg being at the 90' angle.

If the doctor says hes going to repair the femur , that tells me there is problem in the femur bone which probably needs to be straightened, after this procedure is done he will be able to walk normal again but probably with the help of a physiotherapist.

Yes. When the Dr. takes him to surgery he will break the leg and re-set it in the proper position so that he will be able to walk normally. It is an orthopedic procedure.
