well according to deimos, HP seems to be the worst in terms of how long it lasts...

and the best seems to be asus

sony... I know that it won't last much longer than 2 to 3 years because I've read somewhere that it is built to be like that but you only get the good looks for the money you pay for.

dell is a pretty good brand in terms of laptops...

I shopped around a little bit before buying my laptop about 5 months ago. Dell, Sony, and HP make decent laptops. My last one was a Sony and I can't say a bad word about it. It made it through a 15 month deployment in Iraq and still works 2 years after. I have heard alot of negative comments about Acer, though. I would definitely not reccomend the Acer. I ended up buy the Asus laptop and it is by far the best bang for the buck, out of all of them. I got the G71. It has a nice dual core processor, 5G Ram, a sweet GeForce 260M video card with 1G of video RAM. HD 17" screen and the speakers are even nice. I definitely got the best deal. I paid less than $1300 and I haven't found a game I can't play, yet. This thing rocks.

Acer is a wonderful computer. I have had an Acer laptop for over three years now and it still runs like the day I bought it. Asus however is still fairly new to building laptops/desktops PC's. Asus use to make PC components such as Motherboards and recently decided to make there own PC instead. The first thing you need to decide is what you want to do with your computer. Do you need a longer battery life or do you need better graphics and a faster processor? I would stay away from HP though. I have had several HP computers and not liked any. So good luck with your hunting and I hope you find what you are looking for!

Undoubtedly, HP is the best because of extremely superb products quality, tough build, and superior after sales support. (HP's laptops have more weight as compared to others because of the heavier material used) 2. followed by DELL which is superb in all matters except for customer services, in terms of power, DELLs machines are almost as good as HP 3. Sony. This would turn out to be a poor choice but it is still better than the rest 6. The remaining.

Not Acer, not Sony, and not Asus. Ive had bad results with those. Dell and HP are very decent brands. Im on my Dell right now. Make sure it has a nice CPU, and a decent graphics card like Nvidea and lots of memory depending on what you wanna do with it.

In less than 2 years of use I've had 3 motherboard failures in my 2 HP DV9005us laptops. Both went in less than a year and I spent almost 2 months in each case getting HP to replace them under the warranty. In each case they said I was out of warranty as soon as I called and would need to pay for support help (they used the date of OS install, not purchase or registration). The second board in the one failed 20 days after they returned it to me, and when I called, they said I wasn't covered (20 days into a 90 day warranty) WTF!!! HP customer support is lacking another thing, me, I just bought a Sony Vaio. All specs. being the same, customer support is what counts.

I'd go with HP, but.. Asus is also a great brand. Either one really. I wouldn't go with Dell, Acer, or Sony tbh.

I've always liked HP and have one now. It's not so much that it's a better computer, but the technical support is fantastic. There's nothing like getting a real person on the phone right away who will help you for as long as you need for free.

dell, sony and hp. acer heats up too much and quickly and turns off automatically.

In all honesty, with the razon thin profit margins they have on computers these days, all the brands have pretty much leveled out in terms of quality. I'd look more at what you want to do with it, and figure out what specs you need. Then go shop them out and see which one looks better, is easiest to type on, and within your budget.
