State Income tax returns Different states Im confused?

I plan to try to file my return online. I worked in two states & I know for the federal returns i have to file all the W-2's and 1099's etc.

When I file my Kentucky state tax do I just report my Kentucky W-2 and 1099 or do I have to include my Georgia W-2 as well and vice versa for my Georgia state form

Which state did you LIVE in? Commuting to GA from KY or KY to GA would be a major grind so I'd presume that you lived and worked in both states for part of the year and only worked in the state where you were living. My answer will be based upon that assumption. If that's not the case, provide additional details and I can fine tune it for your situation.

You'll file a part-year resident return in GA showing only the income earned in GA and a part-year resident return in KY showing only the income earned in KY. Since you are not working in one state while living in another there won't be any issues of credits for taxes paid to the other state.

The truth is the state where you are a resident will give you a credit for taxes paid to other states. You will still file both states returns. One resident return and one non-resident. But the total tax will be based upon the combined rates.

If you lived in two different states during the year, you need to file a part-year resident return for each state along with a single federal return.

If you lived in one state the whole year and worked in another, you need to file a resident return for your state of residence and a non-resident return for the other state.

you will report both for both states... It will lead you through the entire entering of every w-2 and 1099 form and ask you which state what came from. Don't worry bout doing it wrong the tax sites are prepared for things like that

While you only pay state taxes on money earned in that state, you normally have to report all your income on one line and the state income on another. If there is any question, ask or look at state FAQ, because if they don't ask for both numbers, they presumably only want to know about the state.

See each state's rules about filing as a resident or non-resident or part year resident.

When I moved in 2008, I used turbo tax. I filled in the blanks and the software took care of the rest. I highly recommend it. $30 at Wal-Mart.
