Mechanics: I Need Help With My 1997 Chevrolet S10?

I'm having a problem with my turn signals. I know it's not the bulbs because they still light up. They just don't blink. Someone told me that it's the relay but then someone else told me the relay runs the turn signals and the hazards and my hazards work fine. Could it be the actual turn signal lever on the steering column? Please Help!

There is one flasher relay in the fuse block on the drivers side under the dash. There is another under the dash more toward the middle behind the ash tray/cigarette lighter in a bracket. I don't remember which is which, but you can turn on the one that's working, follow the click to it, then you will know it's the other.

    I am a former 95 and 97 S-10 owner.

Hope this helps and good luck

The flasher or the bulbs is the most likely problem. The turn signal bulbs may have two filaments and the signal filament could be bad so don't discount them completely. A new flasher is usually less than $5 so that would be where I would start. When the multifunction switch goes bad it usually keeps the turn signal lights from lighting at all these switches do fail but bulbs and flashers are a more common problem.

The flasher in that circuit is part of the multifunction switch, the turn signal lever is part of the whole assembly. It is a common failure on those vehicles.

It could be the multifunction switch but first check the basics. Fuses, Grounds. Also Check the sockets on the lights to they corrode alot. It most likely corroded wiring Or single filament bulbs installed.

Check to see if there are any bulbs out, if one bulb is out many vehicles will not flash the turn signal they will just light up. Then try to replace the flasher.

I had an '89 Dodge that did that. It ended up being a short in the electrical. Might want to check that out.

Provided all the lights blink with the emergency switch, I think you just answered your own question
