The catholic church pairs 6 of the 11 Cardinal sins with 7 of the 8 Cardinal virtues. Seven is a lovely number because God created the Universe in 7 days, and six is incomplete and ugly so they added "Sloth," to the 11 and paired it with "Diligence," from the 8 opposing Cardinal virtues.
Wrath opposes Patience.
Pride opposes Humility.
Lust opposes Chastity.
Envy opposes Kindness.
Gluttony opposes Temperance.
Greed opposes Charity.
Corruption is not a Cardinal sin but if it were, it would oppose Justice, the 8th Cardinal virtue.
Each "Deadly Sin" describes an attitude that leads to destructive or self destructive behavior. Sloth was likely conceived from aspects of wrath, pride, despair and hopelessness.
The thing I see with the Deadly Sins and the Divine Virtues is that they all describe motivating behavior, but NOT specific actions. I think that's important.

There is no passage in the bible that mentions the any particular "7 Deadly Sins". Any sin is deadly without the saving power of Jesus Christ :)
Here is an excerpt from BlueLetterBible.com:
"The Seven Deadly Sins, having come under recent scrutiny at the hands of the 1995 film, Se7en are:
Gluttony
Greed
Sloth
Lust
Vanity
Envy
Wrath
They are, though certainly sins that Scripture condemns, not to be found in Scripture in any such grouping. The seven sins originated in the writings of medieval theologues and have been remarked upon by such noted personages as Pope Gregory the Great, Thomas Aquinas, Geoffery Chaucer, and John Milton.
Also of interest is a Scriptural list that bears at least some similarity to the historical list of seven. Proverbs 6:16-19 reveals:
These six things the Lord hates, Yes, seven are an abomination to Him: A proud look, A lying tongue, Hands that shed innocent blood, A heart that devises wicked plans, Feet that are swift in running to evil, A false witness who speaks lies, And one who sows discord among brethren.
Now while these are clearly sins despised by the Lord, none of these are able to keep one from salvation if he will only repent and believe."
You should check out blueletterbible.com they have all kind of neat and helpful things on there :)

They are pride, Covetousness, lust, anger, gluttony, envy, sloth these are called deadly because they engender other sins and vises. I think the words speak for themselves.
Pride yes it is good to feel good about yourself but too much is not good we should be humble.
Covetousness it is ok to want something but to go to extremes to get it is a problem.
Lust self explanatory
Anger getting mad for a good reason is not a problem but to hold a grudge is.
Gluttony just does not mean food it means anything to excess
Envy/ Jealousy
Sloth is just being lazy yes we need our rest but to sit around all day and do nothing or see where someone needs help and you can is a problem.
Hope this helps

They were first conceived by a monk in the 4th century who pretty much committed all of them. A specific level of hell waits the sinners. And it became catholic doctrine later.

They're sins that put you in immediate risk for damnation. I think that they are Pride, Greed, Sloth, Lust, Wrath, err... I forget the rest...
