Theists? If you believe a God created the universe...Why would you not want to learn as much about it as you c?

Science is how we learn about the natural world. If Got created it wouldn't that creation give you the opportunity to learn more about your God, how that Gods mind works, and what purpose that God had in creation.

When you remain ignorant or are willfully ignorant about how the universe is constructed, are you not choosing to remain ignorant of the real God and instead choosing to follow the God of a primitive people who did not understand their place in the universe. Even if they had a genuine connection with the divine, they could not grasp the complexity of the universe and their understanding would have been flawed.

I am an Atheist, but I will admit if there is a God, science will be what allows us to see his face. If there is a God, Science will be able to prove it eventually. By ignoring or denying science are you not stating that you don't think science will find God? Isn't your ignorance of science just your fear that God in fact does not exist?

Update:

You all seem to think that the fact that our understanding of the Universe changes in science is a weakness when in fact it is a strength. Science is self correcting. When we get a better understanding on how something works we correct the model. It is not like an idea that we claim is correct and that idea can not be changed. When evidence is discovered that contradicts it we change the theory. Other wise science would never advance. As new evidence is discovered we learn more about the universe.

We don't worship the creation. We worship the Creator!

If you will do some study you will find that most sciences were started by Christians trying to discover how God did create the universe.

The problem with science is that it has been limited to the natural world. It only studies things from a natural standpoint. It is highly unlikely that they will discover anything supernatural when they are limited to natural findings. For example, we know that DNA is loaded with information and we know that information can only come from an intelligent source. Yet we are not allowed to say that the intelligence was placed there by an intelligent God. Instead we try to come up with natural explanations for how intelligence got into the DNA code. It is like someone who never left a small room and all their knowledge was from that small room. They would be very unlikely to be able to perceive that there is a big world outside that room if they could not leave the room no matter how many people told them of the world outside the room.

You try to claim that many are willfully ignorant, while your side of the argument leaves out any possibility of the supernatural. That is not a position of exploring all possibilities as science should. There are many well documented cases of supernatural things happening yet they try to disregard the truth in order to find a natural explanation.

Refusing to accept a lie is not the same as refusing to learn.

I am surprised that you do not know the difference.

Much of science has been proven false by science. We are only beginning to understand things. At that, I am not so sure we really do understand.

If the foundation is not sure, then the house will not stand. Much of the foundation of beliefs in science are based upon false assumptions. If the assumptions were fact, then there would be no problem. The assumption that evolution is fact is a problem. The assumption that some 'big bang' made everything is a problem.

The trouble is that there is no outside standard for comparison. The claim is made that the Earth is billions of years old. That claim is made based only on things in this Universe. If God made Earth old, as Adam was made an adult, then there is no independent way to check the Earth's age. We only know that the Earth appears to be billions of years old. We don't actually know how old it is.

Many Christians know the difference between fact and assumption. Many scientists do as well. They just won't admit when they are making an assumption instead of calling it a fact. Earth's age is an assumption based upon evidence. Evolution is an assumption based upon evidence. None of these or related science are fact. They are assumptions, educated guesses.

    Edit:

And every bit of that new evidence is in the same Universe. Again, there is no outside reference or standard.

It is not the Theist's who are ignorant of this Universe, it is the Athiests who is ignorant of this Universe, their religion is Science, whatever science says is right! If the Science says that I have only one eye even though you see it two, they will blindly believe it.

Actually what is Science? " It is an intellectual and practical activity encompassing the systematic study of the structure and behaviour of the physical natural world through observation and experiment" in other words it is systematically organised body of knowledge on any subject"

It is in other sense a conclusion of things after a long observation, this observation is subject to change! There is nothing fixed in science. Decades ago we human being understood that it is the Sun that rotates around the Earth but later they understood it is wrong! Tomorrow we don't know what these Scientists are going to tell us!

Where as the teachings of GOD never changes, the morale value a religious teaching put into a society stands till the same. If some political minded people misused the church and manipulate it to their own self agenda, that is a different thing. From the creation of this universe till todate the belief in GOD never died, many Athiests who challenged that this is not a world of GOD later changed their mind and believed in the existence of GOD.

You better open your heart and eyes and see what is happening outside the world? If your heart is not closed with the blindness of stupidness, you can definitely can find the truth! But for that a mere 1 or 2 years effort may not be enough! An open and unbiased mind is needed to find the truth. So the first thing to do is to make your heart and eyes open enough and make it unbiased, make sure that it is not blind to the truth!

A british philosphy professor took 81years of his life to understand that there is a GOD. How long the other ordinary Athiests will take to understand GOD ? Two lives?

Science just discovering what is already there? It is not discovering anything new! It cannot create anything from nothing..

Dec. 9, 2004 - A British philosophy professor who has been a leading champion of atheism for more than a half-century has changed his mind. He now believes in God more or less based on scientific evidence, and says so on a video released Thursday.

At age 81, after decades of insisting belief is a mistake, Antony Flew has concluded that some sort of intelligence or first cause must have created the universe. A super-intelligence is the only good explanation for the origin of life and the complexity of nature, Flew said in a telephone interview from England.

Flew said he’s best labeled a deist like Thomas Jefferson, whose God was not actively involved in people’s lives.

“I’m thinking of a God very different from the God of the Christian and far and away from the God of Islam, because both are depicted as omnipotent Oriental despots, cosmic Saddam Husseins,” he said. “It could be a person in the sense of a being that has intelligence and a purpose, I suppose.”

Flew first made his mark with the 1950 article “Theology and Falsification,” based on a paper for the Socratic Club, a weekly Oxford religious forum led by writer and Christian thinker C.S. Lewis.

Over the years, Flew proclaimed the lack of evidence for God while teaching at Oxford, Aberdeen, Keele, and Reading universities in Britain, in visits to numerous U.S. and Canadian campuses and in books, articles, lectures and debates.

There was no one moment of change but a gradual conclusion over recent months for Flew, a spry man who still does not believe in an afterlife.

There is something that goes beyond what you can see, feel, perceive, observe and understand. It's really not that hard to realize that. You atheists are so sure that there is NO divinity that you fail to see the divinity all around you, so you are missing out.

The fact of the matter is, you're just lazy. Atheism, though reasonable, is a lazy position because you live in a black-and-white world, one where there is no color. It takes some effort to really see the world and the universe for what it is at it's core. However, speaking for myself, I am perfectly content to allow you to stay that way.

The reason why I say that atheism is a reasonable position is because we theists have had personal experiences of confirmation for us to declare that a god is real - atheists are the way they are because they do not have any personal experiences or contact with a deity/deities. Which is exactly why you cite the "lack of scientific evidence" excuse for your atheism.

Science has already proven God exists. The problem is that people take facts and make them mean whatever they want them to mean.

Anyways, the point is that yes, since God is the creator, as a believer in God you should want to learn as much as you can about his creation. And thats exactly what we do. I love learning about nature, physics, etc. This is also why there are Christian Scientists.

We aren't ignoring science, we aren't denying science at all. :)

I do! I have always loved science! If you actually study science you will find Theists played a large part in many major discoveries. The father of modern scientific method was Muslim. The Big Bang was postulated by a Catholic Monk. The paleontologist responsible for discovering the bird/dino connection was a Protestant minister. There are scientists of all faiths, creeds, and colors. It isn't just the realm of white male atheists.

Why do you, an Atheist, insist on grossly generalizing Christians? True Christians are fascinated and inspired by God's creation and they seek every opportunity to study it.

There is nothing in the universe's constitution that refutes our belief in a supreme being, namely, God Almighty. Actually, studying the universe and its contents, only serves as another weapon in our arsenal (which is replete with logical evidence to support our belief).

Also, what type of people FIRST made tremendous advancements in the field of science? Oh yeah, that's right, Christians. Francis Bacon, Isaac Newton, and Louis Pasteur, to name a few, all believed in God.

Here's a question, what do you make of Faraday? Mendel? What about Fleming and Kepler? Were they all idiotic, bible belting nut jobs? I think not.

    Best Wishes,

    Waverly

Could it be that you are the one who is ignorant. Have you ever taken the time to find out how the ACLU tricked this country by having a sub teacher teach evolution in a Tennessee school? It was called the Scopes then later changed to the Monkey Trail. Scopes lost the trail and paid the fine but he had the highest paid attorney in the United States take the case for free..I can go on an on but l am stopping. How can you write a report about something when your premise is based on a lie? it amazing what one can learn by spending the time t read history instead of accepting what you are told as truth.

I don't necessarily believe that science will allow us to see his face. We barely know the entire species on the planet. We know probably a quarter of all the living organisms on the planet. Majority of the unidentified species are in the rain forest we are tearing down and in the oceans we haven't even explored. The only thing we know about the sea floor are the divergent plates at the bottom that push the crust on top of the mantle. We barely know how to create a cure for the common cold. I believe that if we can barely discover what is on our planet, how are we going to explore the far reaches of the universe and "see God?"

In much of religion there seems to be a definitive split between nature and the divine. If God created all, wouldn't that mean there is a element of the divine in everything? If that is so, should we not be stewards of the earth and protect it all as sacred? Shouldn't we want to learn as much as we can about the infinite diversity and interconnectedness of world? Instead we trash our home and kill off other species and habitats. Many supposed Christians don't even give it a second thought.
