my computer is running very slow, are their any honest websites that can speed your computer up for a fee?

Im skeptical of some of these sites that claim they can fix your computer that is running slow, and they charge you $19.99 or more. Do they really work, or is it all a scam? If you know of one that is good, please tell me!

All of those sites are just scams. You can speed up your computer for free. I recommend reading this: http://computersight.com/computers/how-to-speed-up...

It teaches you how you can easily speed up your computer by yourself for free. It's really easy to do too. And it takes less than 15 minutes. I read it and followed the instructions and sped up my laptop drastically. I highly recommend increasing your virtual memory. I totally swear by it! It's amazing how much it can help! Just please don't pay to have somebody speed up your computer! That's stupid!

Harley dave makes a good point, but you should also do the following to help speed up your PC.

I personally don't use those programs, they are a waste of money, or many are a scam. You can goto a "computer doctor" or learn to do things yourself...here are a few tips that will help.

    Defrag your harddrive(s)...

    START>MY COMPUTER>C:\

right click the c:\ (harddrive)>properties>tools>defragmentation>defrag disk

You should empty your recycle bin first, the more space you have on your harddrive, the better the defrag will work. It is suggested you have 10-15% of free disc space before defraging, but is not necessary.

    Next tip...

    Error checking...

    START>MY COMPUTER>C:\

right click the c:\ (harddrive)>properties>tools>error checking make sure to check "automatically fix file system errors" and "scan for and sttempt to fix bad sectors. then start.

    Next tip...

    Clean out your web browser...

    Open internet eplorer goto tools>internet options>browser history>delete>

Use default settings for best results if you want to maks some changes do so, but make sure "cookies" and "temporary internet files" is checked. These two are the ones you want to delete.

    Next tip...

google.com is your friend...type "manually clean my pc" or something to that effect into google, and you will find many tutorials much more detailed then my suggestions. Don't be descouraged about doing things on your own, just read the tutorials step by step and it's a breeze.

Lastly, many of my suggestions take your PC a lot of time to do...IE: if you have a very large harddrive then disc defragging may take 30 mins to litrally hours...and will slow your PC in the process, the best time to do this is when you goto bed at night, or are not planning to use your PC for a while. You should perform all these tasks once a month to keep your PC clean.

Also, try googling "disc cleanup" and see what you find...Windows has several programs to maintain your computer that average people don't know about, and then the spend a bunch of money on "scam" software, when all along you could do it yourself, quite esily.

    Hope this helps :)

The Windows Registry is the master control center for your operating system and applications it runs. Corruption or overload registry issues can cause all sorts of pc performance problems, including poor application startup times, slow Windows start-up, extremely slow shut down, slow internet surfing, inability to resume from computer sleep and more.Cleaning, compacting, and optimizing your Windows registry can go a long way to dramatically speeding up your computer’s performance, start-up and shutdown speed.

    Disk Cleanup

You can run a disk cleanup by clicking start, all programs, accessories, system tools, disk clean up. Choose the drive you want to free up and click ok. This frees up space on your hard drive.

    Disk Defragmenter

You can defragment your hard drive by clicking start, all programs, accessories, system tools, disk defragmenter. Choose the drive you want to defrag and click ok. This will allow your computer to run faster.

    Remove Un-Wanted Programs

You want to remove un-wanted programs form your computer that could be slowing it down. This can be done by clickin start, control panel, add or remove programs. Select the programs that you don't use or could be harmful to your computer and choose to remove them.

    Anti-Virus

If a virus is on your computer it will slow it down alot. There are several free anti-virus programs such as AVG Free and Windows Defender. I recommend both of them with AVG Free being the best of the two. I use Windows Defender on my netbook because it is a "light weight" anti-virus. You can also go the paid route. For paid, I would recommend McAfee security.

    Desktop Icons

Believe it or not, using desktop icons actually slows down your computer. Instead you run your programs through the start menu. First you want to right click on the desktop and click "arrange icons by" then click "show desktop icons". This should hide all of your icons. Then right click on the taskbar and click properties. Then click the start menu tab and click customize. Customize as you like. It takes a little time to get used to running your stuff out of the start menu but it will get easier.

    Unwanted Documents

Last but not least, you want to get rid of the documents you don't need or use. This could be microsoft word documents, music, pictures, etc. So, simpily just go through all of your folders and delete the stuff you don't use.

When you are done all of these steps, re-start your computer.

Thankyou for reading and I hope this helped,

There are some tools you need to familiarize yourself with....

Use Windows Key + R to run the individual commands I list here...

CMD.exe - Allows you to run commands in a command line/prompt.

Disk Defragmenter - Increases the "Read" speeds of your hard disk by clustering up file fragments back together with the original files. Start Menu> All Programs> Accessories> System Tools

"Defrag C: -b" - This optimizes your hard drive to set all of your files used for booting up towards the beginning of the hard drive so they load faster.

Cleanmgr.exe - Cleans up old unused data from the hard disk and compresses old stuff, this helps save some disk space

SFC.EXE /scannow - Verifies the integrity of your operating system and that all files for proper usage are still in good standing(not corrupted)

MSCONFIG.EXE - allows you to remove programs from automatically running at the Startup from the "Startup" tab.

I currently have an unfinished video that I am still editing on how to perform all of these to optimize your PC performance.

If I get enough requests by email to publish it.. I will... but only by request until I'm really happy with it....

Sometimes considering upgrading your CPU and RAM helps too....

If a PC is just generally old, you may be at the peak performance for that machine. The best way to speed things up, is to kill all the "Bells and Whistles" that are sitting in your notification bar(bottom right by the clock)

Also... if you have norton antivirus or security suite... it's a Joke.. get new Security software.... You wouldn't give a drunken sailor your paycheck... so why let Norton use up all your RAM?

Try CCleaner...Being a free registry cleaner, CCleaner has built a huge and solid following, with most of its patrons claiming that they have been using this registry fix as soon as it was released almost 5 years ago, and they have never looked for any other reg cleaner since then.  For a free registry fix, CCleaner's features are simply amazing. CCleaner does things right. It erases the useless and redundant files in the registry, and it never meddles with files that may affect the performance of Windows.

And it is constantly updated! This is something that free registry fixes can seldom afford.

just about the only thing that slows down modern computers is having too many processes running at the same time and having too many windows open with too little ram memory, all the cleaning in the world will not help if your computer is loading 70 plus programs on startup

autumn wolf i am sorry you are having trbl w/your computer. i dont have any answers for you but my suggestion would be to crash you computer back to its original state when you purchased the computer. if you have the installation disk thats what i would do, but as far as finding someone that will do it for what your looking for i couldnt tell ya. i have my pc worked on via an expert no matter the costs due to the fact that id rather have someone that knows what they are doing work on my computer rather have someone that will have *** do it and make money off of me. my computer means to much to me to just have anyone work on it. but if you want to save time and money crash it and reinstall it as if you just bought it. than make sure you are careful of what you install because you can download viruses. when you do download your applications careful you dont have them load on your start up that will only make your pc run slower as well. any further questions or concerns you can email me at achladek@gmail.com or sugarbritches_6712@yahoo.com take care and good luck.
