Any natural alternatives to vicodin?

My insurance for my job doesn't kick in for a month, shortly after which I'm going to get carpel tunnel surgery. In the meantime, I'm in agony. Last year when I'd had this bout, I was prescribed Vicodin since regular OTC didn't have any effect.

I only need something to get me through the month. To those who know natural remedies: what are really effective natural (and legal) pain-relievers?

Go to Grasscity.com to find the Kratom. Also Druid Fantasy mix on there works well too. I also added a niacin rich energy supplement 3 to 4 times a week to reduce swelling and some Red Clover tea once a day to keep the blood flowing and to help cleanse it.

But, like anything in the pharmaceutical or natural side of supplements, everything in moderation.

I know the type of pain you are talking about and it isn't fun. I used the above to reduce pain for a while until I had the work done on my neck. What helped the most was a massage therapist who was well studied in neuromuscular work. I would see her 1 to 2 times a wk for 30 mins to work on my area of pain. I made sure I had the above ready before I went home so I could take it right then while I was still in a relaxed state. Best taken as a tea. You can use a regular green tea or earl grey with it for taste and add a natural honey with it. Within 5 wks of doing so I had gone to the doctor and he was amazed how the problem in my neck was almost reversed and actually told me to continue what I was doing for another 5 wks. When he saw me again he decided to not do the neurosurgical procedure because he saw no more stress on the nerves noinflammationon and actually told me to continue to do what I was doing at leasts twice a month. I just went back 2 weeks ago and there is no sign of damage.

This is exactly what I go through every month.... Hot baths, with a little bath salt helps. Also, get a heating pad. Those Therma-care pads might help. Don't take vicodin for cramps. Pamprin is over the counter and is like Midol, but has different ingredients in it. Or you can try Naproxem Sodium tablets. Of course, read the labels, to know how much to take and how often. If it's possible, go for a walk and get a little excercise each day. It's hard to eat when the thought of it makes you nauseous, so you need to get something in your system. Crackers, dry Cheerios, something simple. Snack throughout the day. Get some rest. Hope this helps. LL

There are none. Opiates and their derivatives are the only chemicals of their type to produce the effects that they do.

If there was something out there that worked as good as vicodin and was legal, you wouldn't have vicodin being the #1 abused drug in the US. Right? Ok.

That being said, many people grow poppies for the codeine, morphine, and thebaine in them. Check with your state. In most states it's perfectly legal to grow poppies. If you score the pods to harvest the opium, it's usually at that point it becomes a crime.

Here's the kicker though; IN SOME STATES (I cannot stress that enough), as long as the pods aren't scored there is no law violation. So in theory, eating the pods is not illegal. Just be careful and do your research in that regard.

But to answer your question, no.

Kratom, white willow bark, valerian root , cayenne pepper . All 4 are very effective natural alternatives for pain relief. A great source is : http://www.herbalcafe.net/kratom.html - Here's an article with more information on all 4 natural alternatives : http://kratomcare.mozello.com/herbal-alternatives-...

You have two options here -

Online you can purchase a plant known as 'Kratom,' it's a tree that grows in Thailand that produces a painkiller known as mitragynine. It has opioid effects identical to those of hydrocodone, oxycodone, etc.

You could also go to a local mom & pop pharmacy and request a bottle of Cheratussin AC. It's a codeine syrup that can be sold OTC in many states, but I believe they can only dispense one 4oz bottle per month, at the discretion of the pharmacist.
