How do I get the cigarette smoke smell out of this room?? HELP!?
I have had an unwanted house-guest for a little over a month now who insisted on smoking indoors. I figured it wouldn't be a big deal if I just had them open the window, but now that they've left and I've cleaned, I'm finding that the terrible cigarette smell is lingering in the room they stayed in.
The floors in the room are hardwood, but I have two pieces of furniture and some decorative pillows in there that I think trapped the smell. I can't afford to have anything cleaned professionally right now, so does anyone know of anything I could do to help get rid of this smell? Febreeze? Home remedies? Anything? I can't stand it! Thanks in advance.

Try this homemade solution - it works, and no dangers from synthetic perfumes...
make your own spray freshener - put 1 teaspoon of baking soda and 1 tablespoon of white vinegar in a clean spray bottle. Once the fizzing sops, add 2 cups of warm water. Wait to make sure that there is no more foaming, and then put in the spray attachment. Shake before using.
Spray lightly over the furniture, including the bed mattress. Depending on how much the smell has been absorbed into the fabric, you may need several applications. If it went deep into the foam, you may still eventually need to have them cleaned.

Been there too. I washed all textiles, wiped down all the woodwork, and washed the walls with SpicNSpan. If you can reach the ceiling (and it's not that nasty popcorn texture) you should wash that too. Don't try to cover up the smell with multiple scents, that can cause headaches (literally). Don't forget to mop the floor. Every surface in the room has been given a light coating of smoke with a little tar mixed in just to give it good holding power. You need to use something that will break down the grease which is why SpicNSpan is recommended, but other cleaners will work too. Use one you know cuts grease and that you like to smell, you'll be smelling it for several days. I second the use of Febreze on the furniture, but if you can wash the pillows on gentle, do so.

The best solution would be to buy an air purifier. Make sure it has a carbon filter as well as HEPA filter. Google for best air purifiers. Make sure the one you buy has capacity for your room size. Use either a cigarette snuffer or and ashtray with a water container or bicarb in the bottom of your ashtray. Much smoke is created by stubbing out cigarettes. with a snuffer they go out straight away without releasing clouds of smoke. Empty ashtrays regularly. You can buy a filtering ashtray with a USB port if you smoke at your PC - try ebay. Also from a health point of view try using Nic-Out cigarette filters - they remove tar and nicotine. These and snuffers are available from Bond of Oxford Street who are bondsofoxfordst on Ebay. I'm in the UK so you may find suppliers closer to wherever you live. Good luck.

You'll have to mop the floor and wash your window treatments and windows. If you have mini-blinds, you can wash them in your tub/shower; can decorative pillows be laundered in machine on gentle cycle? If not, may have to use a few applications of spraying Febreze until odor leaves (really go over the entire fabric). The smell has probably adhered to the walls as well and washing them down with SpicNSpan would help with that chore.
Sounds like you have your work cut out for you :(

Spray cologne or perfume on a cold light bulb in the room. When you turn the light on, the scent will distribute around the room.
