Can I join the navy with a credit card in collections?
it's a old credit card I used in college.it's about a thousand dollars.
well i'm flat broke. One of the reasons i'm joining the NAVY is so I can use the G.I. Bill.
I'm living well below the poverty line right now.

If you was trying to join the Army then bad credit wouldn't stop you from joining, it would only hinder you from getting a security clearance, closing some jobs off from you. I would assume the Navy is similar but I don't know how strict they are with someone who has stuff in collections.

Pay it off first, that shows that you are not trying to ignore responsibility. By the way, you may want to look at the web page .www.myfico.com, apparently some creditors are willing put a favorable report in if you pay in full, but you need to work out the deal before you pay, many won't do it, but other's will, it's worth a try, the site tells you how to do it. But don't try to get out of the debt or go to a credit repair place, that will make you look bad.
