walgreens wont fill my prescription b/c they say I filled early the time before last. can they do that?
I had to fill my xanax early at walgreens about two weeks early because I left it when I went out of town and this was one or two refills ago, and now they are saying that I have to wait longer than 30 days to have it refilled. oh and im on 2mg twice daily so if I run out I will go into withdrawl. so can walgreens do that?
But they have already filled it early and my ins. accepted it. Im saying they wont refill this one because they filled it early before. this one has been 30 days
Actually I just called my Dr. and and explained that I had to get a previous refill about 10 days early and about five minutes later he called the pharmacy and told them to fill it and added 6 more refills, so now I don't even have to go back to see the Dr. for another 6 months....yes I have the best Dr. ever! Also I'm not sure that you people are understanding what I was saying, Last month I got a refill on jan 2nd and while in Birmingham I lost or left it there or it was stolen so I got my second refill on the 21st with no questions asked, so 30 days later is when the pharmacy (Walgreens) had to be anal about filling it even though it had been a full 30 days, so why when I fill the first time early there is no question asked, but when I wait the full 30 days the pharmacy...of which I am now changing, had to make me go through all that trouble, so I didn't fill early this time and by the way my Ins. paid both times.

You better believe they can and they certainly will as you just found out. It's especially bad with controlled substances, and no docs will not give out samples of these drugs. That is illegal. These drugs are strictly controlled and paperwork up one side and down the other. Drug reps don't leave these for handouts.
If you have insurance paying for your meds, even your regular drugs will have this happen if you fill them too often because the insurance company will say "It's too early for a refill." The drugs are issued according to the prescription and that is that. Your only choice is to go to the doc and have them write another prescription.

Yes it is within the power of the Pharmacist on duty to deny a refill that is too early on a controlled prescription. However, if you do go about asking your Dr. for a new prescription, and explain the situation to him...and he/she agrees. Then you will most likely have to pay the full price for the medication, because insurance companies do not cover lost or stolen medication. Assuming that the pharmacist on duty is okay with the refill again being to soon but they might be more inclined to believe that you are not abusing the medication this time because you have a new Rx from your dr..

Xanax is considered a controlled substance. They have laws like this in place to keep people from forging prescriptions for them and selling them. So, yes, Walgreens can do this. However, you might be able to talk to your doctor and have their office call Walgreens and explain the circumstances, but it is highly unlikely. Your doctor may have samples to hold you over until you can get your next prescription filled.
