What's the funniest argument you've heard about people 'needing' meat?

There's the whole protein thing, which just makes me sigh because people don't even know basic facts about where nutrients come from. But there's some pretty funny answers I've heard too. What about you?

"God put animals on Eartth so we can kill de m n eat em. They dn't even hav feelings! U can't live without meat cuz it bulds your musicle structure and helps u grow! I eat meat, but I have first recently begun pondering about whether I should stop; as I consider the environment intolerable in which many animals are slaughtered (and the pain this inflicts).

I've never heard anyone arguing of why people shouldn't ''need'' meat, but I keep hearing people arguing that eating meet is the way of nature. I do to some extent agree, but I think that shouldn't hinder compassion and empathy.

It's good that you asked this question, as it helped me give even more thought on the issue.

well, i am a regular meat eater and would prefer that people that eat meat actually knows were it comes from, i think there is too much waste (lets say, half a steak going backin in a restaurant or throw it out, cause it's freezer burned) - that's waste of life - but i would not stop eating meat, cause i love the taste (don't really care if it's a health issue) - i also respect where it comes from as i had a farm myself and raised animals for meat and slaughtered myself as i believe that - if you want to eat it - you also have to do the deed. but again, too many people think meat comes from the supermarket - they should actually make it manditory to visit a farm and see where food comes from so they can better decide if they want to eat animal products or be vegan or what ever. i think there's too much ignorance that way - so you decide if my answer sounds stupid for 'why i need meat'

"Humans have been eating meat forever, so we should keep doing it."

This is silly since all that means is that over time we've managed to live long enough while eating meat to reproduce.

"If you don't eat meat you'll die or become sickly."

Umm, there's about 399 million vegetarian people in India alone. Somehow they're managing it okay without dying...

I've had many more people tell me they want to remain ignorant so they can keep eating meat because they like the taste. It's a little alarming.

    Hope that helps!

The food chain laziness argument is a lame one. I worked my way up the food chain so now im just too lazy to change.

There would be a shortage of food...........wow.

I guess what strikes me the most is how meat eaters come on here and discuss it and put their backs to the walls. I never researched it when I ate meat, I could care less about the arguments against because I wanted to eat meat still. As soon as I looked into it I changed, like that (snaps fingers).

It astounds me that people don't realize the facts....but then again, people.....

The teeth argument. And the fact that we're "supposed" to eat it.

    1) When's the last time you could bite and tear flesh? The only animals I think we could physically naturally eat are bugs.

    2) Aside from fish, people don't eat raw meat, like other animals.

"Humans are at the top of the food chain". It's total bullsh*t. If you don't go hunt another animal down and beat it in hand to hand combat you are not a true predator. The fact that humans pervert the elements to kill bigger, stronger, faster animals does not make us the fittest. That's the argument I laugh at hardest.

The dumbest things I've ever heard people tell me are:

    1. "But if you don't eat meat, you'll be so unhealthy that you'll die."

    2. "If you don't eat meat, the animals will take over the world and destroy us."

I really have heard people tell me that!! It's unbelievable that people find it so hard to crack open a book and do some research!

I've actually heard some pretty reasonable, well researched ideas. While I've found information to disprove that information, those arguments were presented very respectfully and none of them were "funny." Honestly, I think this question is a bit rude. Why attack the meat eaters?

Well, the whole "omnivore teeth!" argument is really silly. Lemurs have sharper and bigger teeth than we do, and they only eat fruit.

However, I don't really care enough to argue.
