The foundation has fallen from under my feet...?
... there is nothing to stand on. My foundation that situated me, made me stand erect, is no longer there. How does one deal with this event in their life and has anyone experienced the state of feeling as though what you thought you knew was flawed and having so much invested in it, as it is pulled under from your feet, you feel as though there is nothing keeping you up -- that everything now is in question?
This question isn't about anything that I am going through, btw. But I thought it interesting to mention.

I have had that exact experience. I learned to create my own foundation, to adapt to, adjust with and overcome the situation I found myself temporarily trapped within. To make a long story very short, in one day, and because of a circumstance beyond my personal control, I became the outcast of my family, and learned very quickly that along with that I also had no true friends. Every supporting foundation I thought I had vanished in one day because of one event. I survived it, I overcame it, I rebuilt the foundations of my life, as I had to be my sole source of support. I learned to be self reliant and trust not another human soul on this world with my life.
Now 23 years after the event, I am happily married to my best friend, the only human being I can truly trust. My faith in mankind is slowly being restored, albeit solely through my marriage with her.
That which does do not kill us serves only to strengthen us.

I lost mine at a very young age, many chain of events I hate even thinking about it but its not something to be easily forgotten. I felt as though I was given more at that time than I could manage or handle. In this case, its as if you've build a foundation for yourself, investing all your energy and time, and all of a sudden you get robbed of it all...by the people you loved and invited in your life. Go figure !
I was thrown out to see and feel the bitter coldness and darkness of this world while they were warm and happy with my share ...Im glad I was strong and hopeful enough to be able to go through the times that I did. I kept getting up every time I was knocked down. Any other may have gone insane. I learned to always rely on myself and Never trust anyone !!! Sounds bitter and cold but, that was the best lesson to be learned.

Yes, I know.
You have to re-invent yourself, from the ground up.
It's messy, inconvenient, embarrassing and sometimes terrifying.
It hurts.
If you keep with it, though, you'll learn to stand by yourself.
Then walk, and even run.
You can do it.
Once you do, you can then help other people who have nothing to stand on.
