Deciding which tattoo would work best?

I'm going to get my first tattoo soon, but I can't quite decide what would look best. I definitely want something owl related. My first thought was a tattoo of a snowy owl flying, kind of like a portrait of this:

Then I got thinking that making it look realistic might be a high risk of coming out badly, so I thought something like this:

My third thought was simply an owl feather.

So I'm looking for opinions of people who might have more tattoo experience to decide which would come out best. I plan on getting it on my shoulderblade, and I have narrowed it down to two tattoo artists, who will design the tattoo and put it on for me. And because I know someone might ask, I have seen their work and have talked to people who have gotten tattoos from them.

I like the first picture out of all of them, although the image will most likely have to have a lot more grey put into it if you decide to have in colour, as you won't get a great deal of detail in if you use just white ink, plus white ink fades after a while so it may not be your best choice.

However it should work quite well in black and white.

I have two tattoos, and the first one I got was a dove holding a pot leaf in its mouth. It is more like your second option, semi plain but with some shading and contrast. It turned out great and didn't take very long. I also have it on my shoulder blade and it is not the worst pain but it certainly wasnt fun. Remember, the simpler the tattoo, the shorter it takes to shoot it (granted you can sit still). Show the tattoo artist a vague idea of what you want, and see what they come up with. They are the artists so they know what they are doing.

If you get someone good to do the 1st one, it'll look amazing!!! Just make sure u see the sketch first. Any good tattoo artist would be able to make it work, and it's a gorgeous idea x

The 2nd one will be less expensive, the 3rd one no one will know what it is.

The first one would come out the best but you're going to be under the needle for a long time getting that done.

I would go with the first one, just take your picture to the place where you want to get it done and they should tell you before they start what they think about it but i think once it is done it will look really nice.

get a tattoo that has personal meaning to you.. if you get one that doesnt then you might come to eventually regret the decision to get one..
