will my friend remember me when he wakes up from a coma?

My friend went in for surgery because he was having some breathing problems. After a while i got a text message from one of our friends saying he's in a coma.I am kinda scared that he won't remember me when he wakes up from it.Does anybody know if someone in a coma forgets everything after waking up? And also how long does a coma normally last for?

a coma can last anywhere from one day to years (sometimes up to thirty some years). depending on how close you guys were and how long you knew each other before he went into a coma is if he will remember you or not. there are some cases where if he suffered from head trauma, he wont even remember who he is, but that is highly unlikely unless he fell from a ten story building and landed on his head.

it all depends on how long he is out for. i was in a motorcycle accident and eneded up in a coma for about 2 days, and when i woke up, i was fine execpt i lost my memory of the couple of hours before the accident, but other than that i remembered everything else. but if a coma last more than a week or so, it can be unpredictable, after a couple years, he may not even remember how to walk or speak. but if it is just from surgery, it will probably only be for a day or so. the ones that last for years are almost always cause by severe brain trauma. don't worry. chances are he will be fine, but if he isn't. your gonna have to be there for him.
