How common is it for athlete's foot to travel up your legs?

I've read that it can spread, but is it very likely or is it one of those insanely rare flukes?

Update:

And how about it spreading to the hands? Does that happen?

Athletes foot can spread anywhere. It is a fungal infection of the skin and can spread on to any part of the body. There are topical anti-fungal creams available at pharmacists to cure athletes foot or there is a course of tablets that a doctor can prescribe to deal with the fungal infection.

Trust me, it isn't very likely. me and my big sister have gotten it my sister got it from working on a ranch during the summer and cross country and i got it from track and church camp. That didn't happen to us or anyone I have ever met who has had it.
