I think ISAAC NEWTON. what he discovered is from every subject of physics (that means he studied every thing from so vast subjects in physics and research) and forms the basics of almost all the inventions that were carried on after wards.

Hero (or Heron) of Alexandria would have to rank towards the top yet few people know about him...he lived around 2000 years ago yet he invented many things which were subsequently lost over time only to be re-discovered or re-invented centuries later. A short list of his many inventions....
The steam engine..(Although Vetruvius described it a 100 years earlier)
Jet or rocket propulsion.
Vending machines.
Analog computers.
Robotics.
Pneumatics.
Hydraulics.
Syringes.
Force pumps.
Wind-wheels.
Odometers.
And much more.

Sir Isaac Newton would also top the list as well as Da Vinci....who knows how many things Da Vinci really conceptualized since we only have perhaps a quarter of his writings.

I tend to agree with Shikha. Newton figured out optics, mechanics, gravitation, and in his spare time he invented calculus. He did not do all of this all by himself, but he was instrumental in all of these efforts. Most of his work is over 300 years old, but it is still used today in the design of everything from skateboards to spacecraft. The only one that comes close - in my opinion - is Albert Einstein.
