What jobs can lead to Warrant Officer in the Army?

im an older dude ( im using my wife's long in, Im not michelle) I want to join the army, but this is not a career step, but a career change, so I want to choose a job that will lead to Warrant officer at some point, for money reasons mainly.

It seems like Air traffic controller is a good way to go.

Is a helicopter pilot the only career that straight out enlists as a Warrant Officer?

Any suggestions? ( I know, talk to a recruiter, and I will)

Also what clearance does an ATC need, I have some credit issues that would disqualify me from Top Secrect Clearance.

As an older dude, be sure to ask the recruiter about age restrictions, as the maximum allowable age constantly varies with the needs of the army. If you want to be a Warrant Officer (WO) and you aren't even in yet, than your wife must be a very smart lady since WOs probably have the best jobs in the army (good pay, not in charge of anybody, just be the master of your job). I used to be in an Army Air Traffic Services company as an XO and they're a great bunch of guys. As far as I know though, ATCs are enlisted positions, not WOs. Most WOs are Aviators, but there are a minority knows as "Walking Warrants" that have ground jobs requiring high level expertise such as vehicle maintenance, aircraft maintenance, armor, etc. ATCs require flight physicals and Secret Clearances just like the aviators, but you shouldn't need a TS unless you're in a command or Intel job. Depending on how bad your credit issues are will determine if your eligible for a Secret Clearance. If you want the fastest route to becoming an Aviation WO, I recommend enlisting as a 15T (Aircraft Mechanic) and then put in your WO packet as soon as you prove your worthiness. I hope this helps. Good luck!

Maintenance MOSs lead to Warrant Officer positions as maintenance techs, MP positions include Warrant Officers as interrogators.

I'm sure there are other Warrant Positions, those are just a few I'm familiar with.

    Check out this website:

This site explains everything about becoming a warrant officer, including what forms you will need and what enlisted MOS's feed into warrant MOS's. Good luck.

All MOSs can lead to warrant officer. The question is if the MOS has a direct relationship to a Warrant Officer's field. For example, there is not a specific infantry warrant officer, but an infantry Soldier could apply to be a warrant officer versus an artillery Soldier who more then likely end up as a Field Artillery Warrant Officer.

Any MOS can apply for the flight program. If you are not selected or qualify for the flight program, then you can go to another area for warrant officer. A lot of warrant officers work in technical fields involving maintenance and radars for example. So if an infantry Soldier wanted to be a pilot, they can apply for the Warrant Officer Flight Program even though the MOS does not have a Warrant Officer equivalent. If that infantryman did not qualify for the flight program, they could still be a warrant officer in another field, but their choice may be limited.

As a pilot, you will need a minimum of Secret. All officers and most NCOs pretty much need a Secret at a minimum. As long as you have the credit issues under control, you will probably still get it. With any clearance, they are looking for patterns of a behavior, if it was a one-time incident they usually let it go as long as your report it.
