How can I help my 9 y/o daughter get over the death of her cat?

The cat died 6 months ago and my daughter still blames herself.

Update:

We have a new cat and even though she loves the new cat she can't forget about her other one.

She is going through the grief and bereavement process and it is different for everyone. If she is feeling guilty, I would send her a letter as if it was from the pet itself, saying that the pet knows how much your daughter loved it, and it doesn't blame your daughter for anything. The pet is safe and happy, but it is sad to not being able to be with her, but will wait and will someday see her again at rainbow bridge. (Rainbow bridge being pet heaven). This is what I did for my youngest son when we lost one of our cats. We then made a memorial with pictures and fond memories of our cat which still hangs in his room to this day.

Aw, I had a lot of pets growing up and so of course I had to deal with the occasional death of a cat or rabbit or dog (that was the worst). I highly recommend finding a new cat (or cats because you should really have at least two of each species). It helps a lot.

My mom had me create a big pretty card for my cat, Puffy, telling her how much i loved her. It had her picture on it and lace cut around the picture, and then we "mailed" it to heaven. In reality my Mom kept it for me for when i grew up.

Then she got me a stuffed animal cat to sleep with.

What can i say, it helped!

Get a new cat, at first she might not like it but soon she will adapt to it and not think about the dead one as much. It worked on me when i was that age.
