Shooting pain in chest when breathing?

Sometimes when I breathe in deeply its interrupted by a sharp shooting pain in my chest on the left hand side, Why does this happen and should i be worried??

Update:

Its happened about twice a month ,if even, for the last year or so...

    Possibly. It could be trouble with your heart, but it could also just be a trapped nerve.

    If the pain is often- ie more than once a week, it is likely to be your heart. If it is less often, such as once or twice a month, then it is most likely a trapped nerve.

    I reccomend seeing your doctor or GP.

    Sometimes, especially when you're sitting, your lung membrane can become folded over itself. When you breathe in, this causes the lung to rub on itself while unfolding, causing pain.
