Ordering search results by date?

YA in their wisdom don't give us the option to filter search results by date and never seemed particularly interested in user feedback on this issue.

Now, I've got no intention of trawling through individual categories (which can be listed by date) for questions I want to answer. What I (and I'm sure many others) do is use a search which will grab the questions I want from across all of the categories.

Before the update adding &s=-date to the search string in the address bar used to order them by date, it no longer seems to work.

The new string would seem to be &orderby=-date (as seen on the category pages) but this won't work for me either.

Any ideas?

Update:

EDIT: Sorry mate I don't want to search by date range - I want to order the results by date - as in most recent to least....

Update 2:

EDIT: So it would seem... is that a flying pig I see?

Within the past few days, I've noticed that my advanced searches, at least, are automatically running newest to oldest listing. So maybe they finally listened and fixed it to work?

Have you tried using the advanced search features? Then a few options down, you can choose a date range. Hope this helps! :-)
