Raising the minimum wage. Who would enforce it and what would it cost the US Government?

So I have to propose a bill on raising the minimum wage for school. There are a bunch of questions i've got to answer and the two i'm having trouble with are: What administration or organization would enforce this bill? and How much would this bill cost and how would we fund it?

For the first one I really have no idea what to say. Is there a specific group that handles things like this or should I say we should create a group to make sure no business violates it? For the second one, I need to put out an approximate number, but would it even cost the government anything or would it just cost individual businesses? Thanks in advance.

Update:

How much should I say it should be raised? Is there a general consensus among people who want it raised as to how much?

Update 2:

-To Jacob

Yeah, I didn't really research it before posting this. After reading a few things I completely agree with you, it would do more bad then good. I'm proposing a bill that would put a 10 year cap on minimum wage, so it can't be changed for ten years, then in ten years it can be raised or lowered for inflation, then it can't be changed for another 10 years, etc etc.

The Department of Labor would enforce it. It would drive the final nail into the coffin of struggling small business and drastically increase unemployment. If you think new grads entering the job market are having a difficult time finding a job now, just see what happens then.

The real reason the Democrats keep pushing to raise the minimum wage is because many major Labor Unions have contracts that provide them an automatic increase based on the minimum wage.

Think about it logically. If we lowered the wage would you be able to hire more people or less people? If more people have jobs will you collect more income tax or less income tax?

Raising the minimum wage would increase revenues for the federal and state governments. Business that use a lot of minimum wage personnel would probably be hurt a bit, but they often take advantage of people by not offering raises for better performance.

the project with minimum salary will strengthen is they do reason inflation of costs as do new salary contracts for human beings above the minimum point. the federal minimum should not be set to allow for a million guy or woman to maintain a relatives above the poverty line. it purely needs to set a beginning component for get entry to point section time positions consisting of a extreme college or college student wanting to artwork whilst being supportd by skill of their relatives. it relatively is the place all of it started and because it fairly is been raised to examine the poverty point of a relatives of four many roles that paid above the minimum now are minimum salary jobs.

The US Department of Labor would enforce it, it would not cost tax payers a dime it would be funded through lower profits for corporations.
