Why is my furnace blowing cold air, but if I reset the breaker, it works fine?

I replaced my dial thermostat with a digital one about 3 or 4 months ago. I have a gas furnace. The last week, I started noticing that the air that was blowing out of the vents was luke warm...to cold. We checked the blower and made sure we had plenty of gas in the tank. I decided on a fluke to turn off the thermostat and then switch off the breaker. Once I turned them back on...MAGICALLY, it started blowing warmer air. Worked great for about 3 or 4 days. Then again this morning, I woke up earlier than normal. I decided to bump up the thermostat earlier than it normally cycles to a warmer temp and it just blows luke warm air. So I repeated the shut off and reset method and it is working great again. I don't want to have to continue to do this every 3 to 4 days. And I hate to even think about how much gas it could be wasting if it is happening at night and running non-stop. Can't afford to have that happen when gas is $2.09 a gal/ and have to put a minimum of 200 gal in at a time. Any thoughts?

Not familiar with your type of furnace but digital, programmable thermostats have driven me crazy. Since it worked before changing thermostats, try this...

Get out the owners manual for the new thermostat and study how to set the temperature manually (it might be hidden in a chapter called "what if I go on vacation?", etc.) Anyway, try setting the temps manually for a while. If it still acts goofy, call a pro.

If it works well with your manual setting changes, could be it needs to be carefully programmed again. Resetting the breaker might have caused it to revert to the start of the earlier program.

Once you are sure it is programmed correctly, be sure to change the battery (every 6 months like smoke detectors) to keep the program stored even if there is a power failure. Good Luck

If no longer something on the outdoors unit is working, the two easiest and maximum trouble-free issues could be the two changing a fuse interior the disxonnect container outdoors (if it has fuses), the different difficulty-free one is a bad run capacitor. The run capacitors many times swell outward on the ends whilst they go undesirable. you will would desire to take off the panel of the unit to get to confirm it. of course do no longer touch any wires with the capacity on.

call a service tech and spend a buck and have it repaired properly, because the breaker reset is indicating a problem that could become expensive to repair if you insist on corrective answer with such poor equip info posted on this site. there are not any suesayers here

You need to contact a furnace repair specialist and/or HVAC contractor. If you're near the Dallas/Fort Worth area, I highly recommend Tom's Mechanical.
