Why did Thomas Jefferson feel it necessary to change the Bible?
Known as the Jeffersonian Bible, a copy is given to each new member of Congress. Removed from the traditional version of the Bible are "supernatural" aspects related to Jesus rising from the dead, etc.
This doesn't seem to fit with those who said our founding fathers wanted a Christian nation. What do you think?

There has always been people who wanted to try and do it. But somehow the word that God has for us will forever be .

Jefferson was not the only founding father.
Some were deists, some were Christian, some were atheist.
We were established not to be a Christian nation OR a purely secular nation, but rather a nation that permitted freedom of religious expression and provided the framework for a system without religious prejudice.

I think I don't care what Thomas Jefferson's religious beliefs or Ron Paul's religious beliefs are because neither thought govt should be involved in religious beliefs. I'd have to look into this Bible, though, because I am not familiar with it. I DO know Jefferson essentially said he didn't care if his neighbor worshiped a turtle because it didn't break his arm or take his money, or words to that effect.....

Why would a Jefferson interpetation of the bible surprise you. Conservatives do this on a daily basis. Jefferson also had and read from a copy the Koran. That didn't make him Muslim.

Even thought the founding fathers did not want a state mandated religion, they were also very comfortable mixing their religion with governmental affairs.

We all pick and choose what we like in the Bible. It's called redlining. Most of us just don't write it down.
