Since the two party system is failing, and it's difficult for a third party to make headway, how about this?
Many people will not vote for a third party because they are afraid if the third party loses, which it usually does, they will actually be siphoning votes away from the other party that most represents them.
What if you voted for who you wanted and also made a second choice...if your candidate lost your vote would go to the backup candidate?
This would let people vote for their true candidate even if they felt they didn't have a chance but not get ultimately defeated by a candidate of the completely other opposing party and give the third party a chance to actually win.
What do you think?
12 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoWhy are conservatives anti-big government except when it comes to legislating their moral beliefs...?
to be forced on others?
13 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoWhy can't the far right just focus on the ballot box for victory rather than threats?
Is this what the Republican party has become...Becktopia?
Reps. Louise Slaughter and Bart Stupak have received death threats.
A tea party participant published what he thought was Rep. Thomas Perriello’s home address and urged disgruntled voters to “drop by” for a “good face-to-face chat.”
Vandals broke windows at Slaughter’s office in New York and Rep. Gabrielle Giffords’s office in Arizona.
And angry voters are planning to protest this weekend at the home of Steve Driehaus — who’s already seen a photograph of his children used in a newspaper ad published by reform opponents.
The vitriolic health care debate has become personal — too personal, say House Democrats who voted for the bill and now find not just themselves but their families in the cross hairs of opponents.
Slaughter, a Democrat who chairs the House Rules Committee, said a caller to her office last week vowed to send snipers to “kill the children of the members who voted yes.” Her office reported the call to police, who were dispatched to provide protection for Slaughter’s grandchildren. She has also been in touch with the FBI and U.S. Postal Service inspectors, who intercepted a letter en route to her home in upstate New York.
Stupak, the Michigan Democrat whose last-minute compromise on abortion guaranteed passage of the bill Sunday, said callers have left messages for him saying, “You’re dead; we know where you live; we’ll get you.”
“My wife still can’t answer the phone,” Stupak told POLITICO on Tuesday. The messages are “full of obscenities if she leaves it plugged in. In my office, we can’t get a phone out. It’s just bombarded.”
22 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoIf conservatives are against big government, why are they for the Homeland Security Act?
This act destroys our constitution much more than the accusations about the health care bill. Wire tapping anyone without going through the courts? Do we just throw out the constitution when things get tough, or isn't it the law of the land at all times?
Where was your outrage then...or do you only use the constitution for issues you support?
10 AnswersLaw & Ethics1 decade agoIf you live in a state sueing to reverse the health care bill....?
Are you happy that millions of your tax dollars are being spent this way to have the courts and judges make these decisions rather than our elected officials? And if you are, what happened to you disdain of activist judges...or does that only apply to judges who reject legislation you support?
7 AnswersOther - Politics & Government1 decade agoWhy did Thomas Jefferson feel it necessary to change the Bible?
Known as the Jeffersonian Bible, a copy is given to each new member of Congress. Removed from the traditional version of the Bible are "supernatural" aspects related to Jesus rising from the dead, etc.
This doesn't seem to fit with those who said our founding fathers wanted a Christian nation. What do you think?
9 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoI was talking to an elderly ex-Marine about the Democratic health care bill....?
And he went on and on about how he was against the government run plan.
This is a man who goes to the VA for much of his medical care for free. He is on Medicare and Social Security. And he is happy with these programs.
Does any else see some hypocrisy with this?
13 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoIs the Republican threat to run on overturning the health bill as a platform...?
Really just an idle threat to get more Republicans elected. Even if they regain the majority, the president will veto it. And if a Republican gets elected in 3 years for president, I find it highly unlikely the Republicans would be stupid enough to try to take health care away from the millions of people who will be covered by it.
Do you think that when the health bill is passed it will really be impossible to drop it in the future?
14 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoWhy did Rep. Eric Massa actually resign and say he was pressured by the Dems?
He didn't have to resign, he could have stayed. Is it because once he resigns the ethics charges are dropped and there is no investigation?
Something is just not right with his statements. What do you think?
6 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoSince another Republican has come out of the closet, I wonder....?
has there ever been a gay Republican elected and the Republicans who voted for them knew they were gay? Or should they keep their secet life secret so they can get elected?
6 AnswersElections1 decade agoIs this just another act of hypocrisy by a Republican?
Sen. Roy Ashburn of CA, fiersce opponent of gay rights confirms he's gay?
It's not that him being gay is the issue...it's that he is so hypocritical in his political stance. The list seems to be getting longer for Republicans...is this why the Log Cabin Republicans are finally having more participation in the party...and how will the fit in with the far right religious folks?
14 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoDo you think Jim Bunning's attitude about Americans who are suffering ("tough sh_t) ....?
is a perfect example of how Republicans feel about the American lower and middle class? Is this kind of attitude toward Americans the reason why voters kicked Republicans out of control of the White House and Congress?

12 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoTexas school board "new earther" defeated in election?
A key member of the Texas school board was defeated in his effort for reelection. These people decide on the curriculum for Texas schools. This man was a "new earther" who believed the earth is only about 10,000 years old and dinosaurs walked the earth at that time.
Would you have concerns having this type of believer making decisions about science textbooks in your state? How long ago do you think dinosaurs walked the planet?
