Why are conservatives anti-big government except when it comes to legislating their moral beliefs...?

to be forced on others?

Update:

How so? The conservatives want to reverse Roe vs. Wade and make abortion illegal. The drug war is a waste of money and resources because prohibition won't work. Schoolbooks in Texas will no longer discuss Thomas Jefferson because of his stance of separation of church and state. To name a few.

Conservatives do not introduce moral legislation unless there is an attempt to force immoral legislation into our lives. Tit for Tat. You are not a victim, you are the perpetrator. This is the way you fight. And please, stay out of our churches if you plan to disrupt Services.

As an agnostic conservative, I don't care about gay marriage and legalization of drugs (though I think it will create another huge bureaucracy if we do and I'm against that).

I do believe that so long as a father doesn't have a say about whether his unborn child lives or dies, the right to abortion choice in this country is sexist. If we're talking fair, a father should be able to choose his rights to be a parent in the same time frame in which a mother is allowed to abort her rights to be a parent. Which is a whole other argument most people don't seem to get.

    I don't have a religion, so...

Everyone takes risks. Everyone has to pay penalty for the risk or gets reward for the risk. The government is not there to bail anyone out from stupid choices they make. Even if they're a minor.

I am unfamiliar with that being a conservative tenet. Someone has fed you a line of muck, or you watched too much Jerry Falwell when he was alive.

Unlike you, here is what conservatives believe:

"A wise and frugal government, which shall leave men free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned - this is the sum of good government."

    ~ Thomas Jefferson

Because that's what being a conservative means. Seriously, it's basically the definition of the ideology. Conservatives believe economics should be free while social issues should be regulated. Liberals believe that economics should be regulated and social issues should be free. Statists believe both should be regulated, and libertarians believe neither should be regulated. It's all about what people believe the proper role of the government to be, whether it should be involved in our paychecks, our bedrooms, both, or neither.

Mandating me to pay someone else's health insurance bill when it's not my responsibility in the first place...all because it fits in the liberals twisted altruism...

Telling the folks in San Diego that the children cannot have a toy in their Happy Meal because some liberal believes it promotes poor eating habits???????

Telling restaurant owners in New York that they shall not use salt in the preparation of food consumed on or off their premises, because the government thinks salt is bad for us????????

    Where is individual choice?

Where are the freedoms that our forefathers achieved for us?

    Where is individual responsibility?

According to liberals, it should be in the ever exp[anding powers of government...and they mandate it on the people.

Quite honestly, I think these wackos need a bit more morality from the government for that seems to be the only thing they understand....their certainly not getting it from church.

You don't need big government to legislate morality. We legislate the legality of murder, it's illegal. It's been that way since this country was a tiny fledgling democracy.

In fact, most laws legislate morality. Do you think theft is illegal "just because"?

Like what? Abortion? The constitution protects life....and if an embryo isn't alive, why would they have to stop it from forming in to a child?

So, that wouldn't be conservatives asking you to adhere to their moral belief's...that's conservatives asking you to adhere to the right of life wirtten in the federal constitution.

The government shouldn't force anything on it's people, nor should individuals force their beliefs for the masses.

I see now. It's wrong for conservatives to express their morality through law, but you can force me to pay for a product I don't want so that I can do the "moral" thing and "help out those less fortunate"? Your morality is ok, but mine isn't?

    Go fornicate yourself.

Are you saying that liberals don't legislate their moral beliefs? Have you ever heard of the Environmentalist religion or Political Correctness?
