    Were.

    By saying "was" it seems like it is in the past because "was" is past tense. "were" is current. and you are not talking in the past tense.

    "Were" is correct, but this is often confusing.

    In the Prentice Hall Reference Guide to Grammar and Usage, Purdue’s Muriel Harris writes:

    "For past subjunctive, the same form as simple past is used; however, for the verb be, were is used for all persons and numbers."

    For example:

    I wish I was you (informal, spoken).

    I wish I were you (formal, written).

    I wish she was here (informal, spoken).

    I wish she were here (formal, written).

    i guess formal would be something u would say infront of the class(for speaking)

    and it could also be formal in an essay good luck hope I helped!!! =P
