Depends on the size of the dog and the amount of work that needs doing. Most dogs need to be put under a General Aneasthetic for this sort of work, and that's a huge part of the cost. My vet has always suggested to do any dental work when they are having something else done at the same time (most dogs need a GA several times duing their lives) and this has saved me heaps.

Different clinics do charge differently - a friend recently checked de-sexing costs for her 6 mth old pup, and got quotes ranging from $150 through to $550. The clinic overheads such as rental, whether they have the equipment on hand or have to get it in etc. all have an impact. It is usually best not to shop around but stick with the vet who KNOWS your dog, and has all their medical history on hand in case anything goes wrong.

$500 for a basic clean seems a bit steep to me. Hope this helps.

my vet is very affordable and does it for 80. other vets i have asked (it isn't my dog so we looked at different vets to get a good idea of cost) were anywhere between 150-500. my advice? shop around a little bit, and make sure the vet is credible. there is totally a difference between a routine cleaning and a deep cleaning. routine cleaning should be very cheap, a detailed cleaning involved antibiotics and putting the dog under for a little while.

A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

It wouldn't hurt to check around and compare prices. The last dental cleaning my dog had was just under $200 and that included the pre-op blood work and several teeth extractions.

$500 seems way too high. I got my dog's teeth cleaned for ~$125; then again he's a pretty small and calm dog (a 6 lb Coton), I wouldn't pay $500 for a dental cleaning.. I'd rather buy a doggie toothbrush and toothpaste and do it myself.

Unless your dog needs some teeth extracted and some pain medication, that sounds expensive. Ask the people at the clinic you take your dog to what is included in that price.
