Wedding Reception question?

We aren't big on dancing in front of people. Do we have to do the traditional dances? I feel really stupid doing as, as does he. We can't dance and can't afford lessons because of the cost of the wedding!

Would it be acceptable to have the option for guests to dance, but not have the traditional first dance, father/daughter and mother/son dances?

Our venue has outdoor and indoor areas. The dance floor is outside on a terrace and the reception dinner and everything will be on the three seasons porch, so I don't think it would be awkward?

Thoughts?

I'm a DJ and I've done weddings where everybody dances but the bride and groom, Father/Daughter, and Mother/Son.

Nobody notices. Everybody is too busy eating, talking, taking pictures, and having fun dancing themselves.

    Best wishes to you.

There is no rule or regulation that states you have to have "a first dance" matter of fact, you don't have to dance at all, IT'S YOUR WEDDING, and you get to make the rules. Just make sure that the DJ or whomever is holding the microphone knows that so "the Bride and Groom's first dance" is not announced.

True story . . a Bride and Groom wanted to have "their first dance" at the end of their ceremony (which was taking place in the middle of a big banquet room) before they left the banquet room to take outdoor photographs. Boy, was that a mistake!! Apparently, the Bride and Groom had never danced before together, and that certainly showed. People were actually laughing at how awkward they looked. If anyone needed dancing lessons, it was this couple.

You don't have to dance at all. And I personally hate dancing in public too.
