Jesus Vs. Horus... copycat?
I know many of you have heard of the copycat theory. I would like to hear your thoughts? There are a lot of similarities that cannot be simply dismissed. SN: it gets kind of scary when your eyes are finally opened....
It was scary to me b/c I was raised a christian, attended catholic school and for the story to be a combination of other religions' stories and/or myths was scary to me. I'm just really beginning this journey of discovery so even though I am an agnostic atheist, I'm still taken aback when I discover new things about things I was taught were true. Thank you ALL for your insight on this. I appreciate it greatly.

✞ We have seen down through the ages at what satan the deceiver does with the word of God...He uses it and twists....This is nothing more than another tactic of the enemy...

I also find the theory interesting. However, I do think that in some cases, it's just a matter of coming up with the same idea as someone else. For example, you and I both come up with inventions nearly the same and one of us patents it first, the other is the "copycat." I hope that makes sense. I would like to see this idea addressed more though. Whether or not religions actually do copy each other, the similarities can't be easily dismissed. Not just the similarities between Jesus and Horus, but in other religions as well.

It's probably got some merit, though not so much as most people who mention it think. Christianity is mostly a blend of Judaism with Orphic-influenced Greek thought. Orphism is a cult of Bacchus/Dionysus worship (and there are a great number of similarities between, for example, the stories of Jesus' life and those of Orpheus') but may have originated or at least gained popularity on Crete, which was quite disposed to Egyptian influences.
Those who dismiss it completely probably don't understand where their religion came from, while those who portray it as if it is some sort of amazingly close fit are also twisting the truth beyond recognition.

The problem is the similarities are superficial at best and downright fabricated at worst. There is also a problem in establishing who copied whom since most of the Horus stories we have uncovered that are similar to christ are from the second century and so the copying could just as easily have gone from Christ to Horus instaed of the other way around.

A lot of the Jesus/Horus comparisons promoted by the film "Zeitgeist" are bogus.
Still, my own research on the subject has led me to conclude that Jesus was not an actual historical figure, but rather a combination of several different figures, some real (Yeishu ha-Notzri, ben Stada, etc.) some fictional (Mithra, Prometheus, Tammuz-Osiris, etc.). It's just that Zeitgeist is a pretty poor source on this subject. I'd recommend these instead:

Next time someone tells you about the similarities, ask them for their source material. Zeitgeist doesn't count, because it doesn't cite ITS source material. The fact is there is no pre-Christian document describing Horus in a Jesus-like manner. None. The whole born on Dec 25, 12 disciples, born of a virgin, etc...quite simply are NOT part of the Horus story. Someone just made that up and it keeps getting repeated by religious conspiracy theorists and others too ignorant to ask about the source of such suggestions.

Horus is nothing like jesus, end of story.
Well i wont end my story just yet. If you would actually study Egyptian mythology you would find nothing like what you saw in Zeitgeist or the god who wasnt there. Horus was not born on Dec. 25, not born of a virgin, not known as the lamb of god, did not raise from the dead, was not crucified. Horus was a falcon.

Definitely copycat. Plus some was taken from Tammuz and Mithras and others.

There is no evidence connecting Horus and Jesus.

You've watched Zeitgeist without doing any research haven't you?
Horus was not born of a virgin mother. Please hit-up Google and see for yourself. Use a reliable source.
